Just a throwback shuffle

 

"You sure, there isn't a chance you can't work it out with Simon?" Poppy didn't mean to put Steve on the spot, but she'd grown to think of them as a couple, always. Why hadn't she seen their problems?

Steve shook his head and said he was going to stay with Dan for a while.

"But how," she looked at him wide-eyed. Dan already had Jory staying with him.

"It's not that complicated," Steve went to pack his things. He said he'd stayed far too long and he knew Alife and Poppy needed time to be a couple. He felt he was interfering. 

"No, that's not true," but she wasn't smiling about it. She did want to have more alone time with Alfie. They were more than friends now and well, maybe they were a little too crazy for each other. She hoped she hadn't offended her gay friend. "I want you to stay."

Steve said nothing and went on his stoic way.

"Is there something going on with you and Dan?" She asked from the doorway of the guestroom where Steve had been staying these last few weeks.

He looked over his shoulder and cracked a smile. 

"Oh, you don't really know either one of us." He chuckled and said he'd known Dan since before middle school. "I used to stay over at his place on weekends. We are friends. Just friends. I know I couldn't do this with just anyone."

Poppy nodded. She guessed she understood. "But you aren't in middle school," she reminded him.

"It won't be long. I'm going to find my own place." He definitely sounded as if he was on it and it was only temporary, staying with Dan.
