"Why are you calling?" Steve sounded busy, as if it were a bad time, but he didn't hang up.
"I..I was hoping you would talk me out of something," Dan managed to say while the coast was clear. Ivy went to see Bom about something while the baby was asleep.
"Why?" He wasn't even helpful. Dan was ready to slam his Android across the room, but he gripped his phone harder wishing he didn't have to explain this to his friend.
"I'm about to commit to the most fertile woman on earth." There. That summed it up. He'd never say it again, but it was definitely the truth about Ivy.
"This does not sound like you at all," Steve's voice was monotone and kind of slow. He said he was cooking and he had to watch the time because someone was coming over.
"What? Are you getting back with Simon?" Dan snapped.
"No."
"The thing with Ivy. I..I just can't get out of it," he told Steve.
"Oh, you'd be out the door right now if that was the case," Steve reminded him that he was very good at avoiding some things.
Dan really didn't know where to begin. Yes, he was that guy who said no to just about everything. Because he was born that way. He'd been a faithful son. He'd always gone out of his way to do good. To be who his parents wanted him to be. Because, he knew he owed them. But now, they weren't here and maybe he felt a little lost.
No..no..this was all Ivy's doing. If..if she hadn't came to stay with him. He sighed, thinking it was all over now. She was back with Jay. It was like it was supposed to be. But things had turned around and he couldn't just leave her in this mess.
"Look, maybe you just need to let go," Steve said.
"What?" Dan felt a little frantic.
"If it doesn't happen now, it might never happen," Steve told him. Dan only nodded and sucked in a breath. Before he knew it Steve wasn't even on the line.
Interesting
ReplyDeleteIt happens to all us , sometimes, to feel 'a little lost' like Dan is feeling now with Ivy in and out of his life.
ReplyDeleteHe'll hopefully get over it.
Another interesting read, great chapter.
ReplyDeleteDan needs some confidence in himself.
ReplyDeleteHola, una lectura interesante.
ReplyDeleteBesos desde Promesas de Amor, nos leemos.
Very interesting 😊
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that Steve has no time to talk to Dan. Maybe he gave him good advice.
ReplyDeleteneed to be confident is important...
ReplyDeleteUy que hará ahora Steve. Te un buen fin de semana. Genial fragmento
ReplyDeleteI feel for Dan. You write about his situation so realistically: "He'd always gone out of his way to do good. To be who his parents wanted him to be. Because, he knew he owed them. But now, they weren't here and maybe he felt a little lost." Who hasn't, at some point, felt compelled to rebel against his/her parents? Sometimes, when it happens later in life, as with Dan, the impact is worse. I'm interested to see what happens here. Also, loving the donut and scrunchie duo in the collage!
ReplyDeleteHello!! another good and interesting chapter. Thanks for sharing.
