the bitter-sweet of it all

Just how long could Victoria stay on this cloud of bliss? Oh, there were starry nights, cozy moments, and lots of laughs with Steve this summer. And then her sister Melissa showed up.

"What are you doing here?" Naturally, she was Vicki again and we all knew who actually ruled the roost at her home. Her sister Melissa.

She was the smart one. The one who could be anything with all her worthy scholarships. But she was rather mundane now working at some University library and living with some old college mates. Not that her parents asked what that meant. Victoria wouldn't even ask.

"Can't a sister visit?" Her sister looked stunned that Vicki might be a little put out with her.

Victoria only shrugged and asked her not to call her Vicki anymore.

"Why?" Her sister was curious as to if something was wrong with her little sister. "What happened?"

"Why should it bother you?" As it was her sister's relationships were always better and so much more serious than anyone else's on the planet.

"Well, you're my little sister," she sounded as if Victoria was in a bad way.

"I'm seeing Steve." Victoria swelled a frown, even if she wanted to smile. Somehow, she had a feeling Melissa always liked Steve but wouldn't admit it. Although, she'd talked a lot about Steve during her internship at the library.

"How could that be? He's got a boyfriend." Melissa looked at her as if Victoria might be in a fantasy world and she was making up the facts that even cotton candy was only sugar, possibly a lot like her love life.

"I'm serious?" Victoria hugged herself, wondering what would she have to do? Move-in with him?

  7. Great chapter. Even sisters tend to argue with each other.

  9. Oh, man. This Melissa is trouble. It's so mean when she brings up Steve's old boyfriend, but the way you write about it is so cool: "Melissa looked at her as if Victoria might be in a fantasy world and she was making up the facts that even cotton candy was only sugar, possibly a lot like her love life." I hope that Victoria (not Vicki!) puts her in her place and stays with Steve on their cloud of bliss.

That's terrible about the hurricane winds in your area. And yes, I'm surprised to hear about that happening in Nebraska! On the flip side, I heard about a tornado here in South Jersey, although thankfully nowhere near me. Do you get a lot of tornadoes? Finally, thanks so much for your kind offer of incorporating my brooches into a future collage. I'd be honored!

    1. Some are still without power. It's taken so much longer to get the debris out of the neighborhoods.

Well, Melissa is a sister who has her own troubles. Possibly, she might be speaking more about herself than Victoria will ever know.
