Bom finally got ahold of Joon. She knew it was a little too late, but he wouldn't care that she married Brian anyway. At least..well, at least he wouldn't think she was still holding a flame for him. After all, he was her first love.
Granted she was a late bloomer and never believed in that sort of thing when she was growing up, but she'd known him back in school. After all, she thought he was the most perfect person that ever existed. And he'd only found any passion with her when they were drinking while they weren't studying for the civil exams which neither ever passed.
"Seriously?" He sounded as if he didn't like hearing about her marrying Brian. "You deserve better, you know."
"Oh, stop. He's been good to me. Besides, we're best friends and I love Keanu too. And well, we are having a baby in late October."
"October?" He sounded almost ill at the thought.
"But how are things going with you?" Bom asked. He and his wife Natalie moved to Chicago before the pandemic. He'd gotten a good job there with some corporation.
"Well, I worked at home for the longest time," that's when he said the trouble began. Natalie had left him.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Bom felt heartbroken for him, not because he was her step-brother, but she'd thought so much of him all these years. "Did you even tell your Mom?" Bom's dad married Joon's mom and now they'd moved to the Philippines to retire.
"I don't really want to," he told her.
"I see," she told herself not to mention it in her weekly phone call to her Dad. He then said he had Niah. He was a single dad now taking care of a soon-to-be four-year-old.
"But, but couldn't you move back?" Bom said she could help and she was sure Ivy's family would help, as well. They thought of him as family.
"Sometimes, I want to..I really do." He told her his half-brother still lived close to Bom. But then he told her he felt like a failure and he wasn't sure he could face any of them. He told her he was sorry he hadn't treated her like family when he should.
"It'll be OK. Just come home," she told him. "You need to be with family."
Very nice;)

ReplyDeleteHey Ellie! Just wanna say, and thanks for the heads up on Monthly Magazine Home. I like the premise. (I've been itching to watch some K-horror so I'll be watching The 8th Night.). I still haven't seen Mischievous Kiss but I read that Jung So Min is a good actress:)

ReplyDeleteWhoa, I didn't realize that Joon was not only Bom's stepbrother but also her first love. That's wild and very messy indeed. It made me think of all those jokes about Marcia and Greg on The Brady Bunch, even though they never acted on their "feelings". Joon being single complicates things even further. Oh, Ellie, what a web you weave! On another note, I didn't know that K-drama actors are forced to adhere to such restrictions to make their movies. That's awful. And ironic, considering that being an artist is supposed to be about telling stories that set people free. No wonder you felt sad watching the awards show.
