"Well, how come nobody told me?" Brick didn't mean to be rude, but he couldn't help it. Slater was ready to drive Brick and the girls to the movie theater. He showed up just as they were leaving work.
"It was a last-minute thing," Slater's sly smile irritated Brick. It had to be a lie.
"But we're not ready," Vanna protested. Besides, they were supposed to take her car, but a tire needed fixing.
"That's OK, we will make sure you guys get ready," Slater nodded as he got them loaded up in his little black Land Rover. "Matty made plans he couldn't get out of, and Vanna has car trouble. Let me do the driving." Slater shrugged and asked who lived the closest.
Brick shook his head and got in the passenger side. Of course, he wanted to be sitting with his date, but he knew he needed a shower.
Slater dropped off the girls first and then got Brick to his grandmother's house.
"Now don't go trying to break up Matty and Valentina," Slater looked at him as if he was the worst friend ever.
"You're too old for Vanna!" Brick snapped.
"Am I?" Slater only looked at him curiously and told him to make it quick in the shower. They needed to be at that theater in forty minutes. He'd already picked up the movie tickets.
So Brick did his bests to shower and change and get back to Slater waiting in the driveway. Soon enough they got the girls and Brick was with his date.
Of course, while they were at Vanna's Slater got to meet her older sister who was visiting from Pennsylvania. It was there Brick saw just what a smooth talker Slater was. He'd already asked out Vanna's sister.
Brick only winced and shook his head, no. This couldn't possibly be.
"What are you doing?" He came close to Slater's ear and whispered as Slater drove away.
"She looked like she needed a date, to me," Slater said in a low voice.
Brick rolled his eyes. He'd never be that brave. He couldn't just ask anybody out. What was wrong with Slater?
Next thing he knew Slater was chatting up Vanna about her plans for college. It was as if Slater might be a professional dater.
seems that way

ReplyDeleteA very interesting post.
ReplyDeleteExciting!
ReplyDeleteUy soy como Brick algo tímida y cobarde. Genial capítulo, te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteSlater, the professional dater. Nice description! Yep, he's slick alright. Personally, I prefer people who are less cocky, like Brick. Still, I hope that Brick comes into his own kind of confidence. He seems like he's in pain. I'm interested to see how this date pans out.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't think of Slater being cocky..but I think he wants people to think he is. I feel he and Brick are a lot more alike than maybe they even know. Thanks so much for reading..and for the comment too.
DeleteWho gets to date who. Competition!
ReplyDeleteSlater is one slick dude! It will be interesting to see how this night unfolds:)
ReplyDeletePS Ellie, thank you so much for always leaving such lovely comments on my post:) You rock! And you should teach me how to crochet! :D I only know the basics.
I think Slater is so much confident about himself...
ReplyDeleteSlater is definitely a player.
