Surging on

 

Honestly, Valentina didn't want to think of anything at all. It was good to getaway. Not a worry in the world about her future at the University. Of course, she and Matty might as well have gone to Mars. But World's of Fun was enjoyable yet tiring. And there was even more joy knowing she'd finally let herself be with him. 

Even now in the water at the pool was like an alternate universe. A part of her felt so bad being cold to him, but the more she said she didn't want him..the more she did. And suddenly, when it happened the night before in their room, it finally felt perfect. 

She stopped thinking about age or the past. She was happy she'd waited for Matty because it was his first time too. But it was as if they'd studied all the right dance moves and well, she couldn't help to show she was happy about it now and she could see it in his face that he was glad to be here. Wet hair slicked back in the chlorine waters, he was perfection. 

"What are you thinking?" Matty asked. They were in the shallow end, and the day was turning to night. 

"Oh, I just think I worry too much," she smiled. It was hot and humid, but the pool was cool and relaxing.

"I can't stop you from doing that." His smile was open and he splashed some water toward her but it missed her. He came closer and wrapped his arms around her and kissed her as if she was everything to him. 

"Do you think anybody knows?" She asked after the slow kiss that might as well have taken them to the deep water under the diving board.

"You mean, Jools and Mick?" Matty asked with a playful wince. She nodded.

"Will you tell your dad what happened?" She wanted to know.

"Why would I?" He shrugged with a smile with his arms around her and she felt good to be here in the moment.

"I dunno." She didn't want to be sad.

"Don't worry about it," he smiled. After all, there had been contraception. 

She laughed then. And he swung her around in circles in the calm pool. They made their own waves.
