"In all honesty, I don't think she's all there," Jay said about the Misty matter to Slater who was chopping up veg for some cold salads to make for the week. He'd gotten so organized lately as if he was getting ready for the storm of the century. There were even boiled eggs in a carton ready for the fridge.
"Well, I know there are plenty who would say the same thing about you," Slater snapped. He was too busy to smile. Seriously, Jay was afraid he'd cut a finger.
Jay gave him a disgruntled look. He'd been working long days and finally managed to get some groceries. Some special goodies for little Hope. Of course, he'd been stopped by the sunny Vanna who wanted to know who he was buying all this stuff for. For the first time, he didn't hesitate to talk about his daughter because he knew he didn't have the heart to flirt with anyone. Dang, if she wasn't all sweet on him and wanted to meet Hope.
"What is it?" Slater looked back at him as if he was being too quiet. Jay hadn't even unpacked the brown paper sacks.
Jay only sighed as he gave him kind of a wink when he said, "Well, it's sort of.... kind of date with this girl-"
"Are you kidding me? You have Hope this weekend?"
Jay could see it didn't sit well with Slater.
"It's not like that," Jay shook his head, no. "She..she wants to meet Hope."
"Oh really?" Slater kind of smirked but went on with his prepping.
"She wants to come over for dinner." Of course, he didn't get a thing for dinner. He really didn't know what to do. After all, she'd caught him off guard. Suddenly, the stress was real. Vanna looked the high-maintenance type.
"Oh, you're something." Slater shook his head, about that time a ding came from Slater's phone.
"Me?" Jay winced hard. "You aren't far behind."
I love what you write.

ReplyDeleteNothing like a baby to hook a girl! I think things will go better with Vanna than Jay's giving himself credit for. Also, "Some special goodies for little Hope." is so sweet! It really makes Jay endearing. And the blue heaven collage is a dream -- right down to the angel wings!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I couldn't resist when I saw the ANGEL WINGS! Oh, Jay..he's the good and the bad yet attractive..even to Vanna who might see a whole different side of him than anyone else.
DeleteIntriguing and great story for your age group ~ life like I think ~ Xo
