What's a mom to do

Ivy didn't know what to do with Keanu on weekends. Truly, she would have just liked to have some time to herself, but Bom thought it was a great idea. A good time for the two to spend time together.

Of course, after the third weekend, she didn't know what to do with him. Naturally, Bom gave her a list.

1. Talk to him.

2. Let him help clean. She said he wasn't all that bad with a vacuum and he loved washing dishes. (Naturally, Ivy found he was rather messy at this, to which turned into bathtime)

3. Enjoy the outdoors. If Ivy didn't feel up to going to the pool with him there were always splash pads. (Of course, Bom took him to swimming lessons last year, this meant Bom actually had to take the lessons with him). And, there was always the nearby playground.

4. Explore the indoors. Make things (messy times in the kitchen with cakes and cookies and pizza). Even put a puzzle together. And of course, she could always read to him.

Usually, Ivy was exhausted by the time he left and the arrival of Hope. Keanu liked to be there when his sister came home. Ivy knew she should be ecstatic about this as much as Bom was. But really all she wanted was a nap.

Sure, Dan helped out, but he wouldn't take Keanu anywhere unless she was with them.

"I think all he really wants is for you to be next to him," Dan told her. He felt certain Keanu cared about her. But it made Ivy sad feeling how much she'd let him down in the past.

"Well, thinking about that isn't going to help right now," Dan told her she needed to make more plans on the weekend with Keanu. Dan made it sound as if they were dating or something. She'd never really thought about raising kids that way, but she was certain she could be a better Mom. And she knew she had to be friends with Jay too.

Of course, Jay was good at giving her the Sunday report of how many naps and poops Hope had during her stay with him. Sometimes, she'd forget to tell him how Hope she was doing during the week, but he never said much of anything else to her.

She wanted to give Jay the third degree. Especially, if he was seeing anyone while Hope was over, but Dan told her to keep her cool. It was best not to know, and for all, they could see he never neglected the baby. And sometimes, Hope wanted to stay in her father's arms. She didn't want to be with Ivy.

This crushed her the most. After all, Hope's first words were DA DA.

  1. Sounds like a tough time for mom having to give time to her kids while all she wants is to rest and take a nap.

  5. Oh, so sad and overwhelming! Although I do dig "messy times in the kitchen with cakes and cookies and pizza" (not so much making them as eating them, though). It's awful the guilt that mothers go through, especially Ivy in this situation. The last line is a real gut wrencher: "This crushed her the most. After all, Hope's first words were DA DA."

    1. THANKS! Really, Ivy has been through a lot. Especially, when Jay left her and true, she wasn't thinking of Keanu then when she should have. I think this is probably what bothers her the most that someone else was there for her son when she wasn't. And now that she has baby number 2..well, she feels the stress of having to share custody of an infant. The guy she is with hasn't exactly stepped up to play the total step-dad. Although, I feel Dan is the type wanting to teach Ivy something about her life and how she can do better. At this point..I dunno if this is helping their relationship.

  7. Listing things (such as talking, Cleaning etc) is a really good idea but mom Tired. I think a list must be planned for her resting (Forexample Cleaning the kitchen for her or cooking the dishes she likes for her etc.)

    1. This is true. A man should look out for his woman and she needs time with her friends. It can sometimes be a power struggle.

  11. Oh, the pains of motherhood! Mothers are often tired, and that reflects on the child. Dada should definitely help.
