Had it been three weeks? It felt like three years. Mick wasn't sure he could live with a sister who didn't have a job.
She thought they needed new curtains in the living room, but it felt as if people were looking in now. She wasn't very good with her fabric choices.
"Why not worry about your room." Mick knew they couldn't take the sheets down, but he could hardly stand to look at them.
"She can't sew, either," even Jools noticed. It wasn't until now Mick realized Jools was the domestic god. He really had a thing for textiles although he had a way of keeping it a secret.
Mick usually didn't ask for much since he knew he was pretty dumb about certain mundane things. Evidently, he was rather stupid with the idea that Jools might like him in a romantic way. So he'd taken a step back, but possibly from a friend's perspective, Jools might help his sister.
"Could you possibly find Dimi a job at the university?" Mick told him she'd gone to college. She was even going to go into nursing, but he wasn't sure what changed her mind.
"Me?" Naturally, Jools said he couldn't do much, but he'd look into it.
Finally, Jools got her set down at a computer and got her resume out there to see if she was needed.
"Do you think she might be worse than me," Mick asked one night before bed.
"What are you talking about?" Jools looked at him as if he shouldn't say things like that about himself. "You're fine," he said Dimi was probably just trying to get over her heartache. Maybe it had to do more with herself than with that Cash. "I'm just glad he's leaving her alone. I'm glad she's OK. She could be pregnant or something."
"Could she?"
"Sorry, I said that." Jools was being his manly self as if it was best not to mention it ever again. He told him not to worry. Dimi was young. Maybe she'd find something at the university.
university life is wonderful...

ReplyDeleteHello!! so well written.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!
A university job is a good one to have. My daughter worked in university library for a few years before she graduated.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting
ReplyDeleteUn trabajo siempre es bueno te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteLooking for a job is always a big challenge.
ReplyDeleteMick sounds like a fascinating person. Maybe there is a future for him and Jools. Dimi sounds indecisive, but that's perhaps only natural in someone so young. Yes, Dimi could look for a job at the University.
ReplyDeleteFinding a job will be such a step forward in life!
ReplyDeleteUniversity life, university friendship, part time works for the university students are for the one!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting ;)
ReplyDeleteGood :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd the drama with Dimi continues! She seems like a bit of a lost soul; a job would be good for her. It's funny how Jools is a "secret domestic god." Is he afraid that too many people will ask him to sew things?! Overall, the situation with Dimi doesn't seem to be driving Jools and Mick further apart as much as I thought it would; on the contrary, it seems to be bringing them closer together. We'll have to see.
ReplyDeleteYour comment on my numbers post was such a delight! "Oh, I was always a romantic with numbers. Even when I was little I was making them a soap opera." I can't imagine anyone else replying that way, and now I'm curious about these soap operas!
