"I don't even want to talk about Valentine's Day!" Lily hadn't meant to be bitter but it was like her grandmother was channeling an 80's sitcom these days. Lily didn't want to hear about all of her gram's Valentines' adventures. Nothing like that was going to happen. Especially, since the Valentines' day dance was canceled due to COVID.
"But..but you have to do something..you have to," Gram sounded sad as if Lily was missing out. It only left Lily with a sigh. She was off in her room trying to get some homework done on her laptop.
Sure, it would be nice to do something with Mercer. She smiled at the thought. Why couldn't it be just the two of them out there somewhere? Just getting a burger at the old diner would be nice? And maybe having cherry pie, afterward. It would be quaint. They could even go dutch.
She scratched the back of her head in thought. Remembering what Rafe had told her. Mercer and Cade.
She squinted, thinking what if Mercer didn't like that idea. Had anyone thought about Mercer? Seriously?
She found herself gritting her teeth and wanting to throw something, but instead, she looked over her shoulder to see her grandmother holding heart-shaped boxes of chocolates.
"I can't eat all that!" Lily made a face of disgust, but truth be told she could probably down a whole box in five minutes or so, but she wouldn't.
"I didn't get it for you," her grandmother smiled. "It's for the boys."
"The boys!" Lily was in a huff now.
"You'll find someone to give it to," she put the red boxes on the bed.
Lily winced harder. What was Gram thinking?
"Rafe will need a box and..and what about that other boy? Mercer...oh..and Brick too. Brick loves his chocolates." Gram remembered. She always made him fudge for Christmas.
"I'm not giving him anything!" Lily's frown was a small circle as she hugged herself. She looked at the ceiling for guidance. She could go and ask her step-mom on the third floor about what to do, but as it was she hadn't visited her Dad's new family since she got here. Honestly, there was no need to.
Her grandmother is so sweet, even when she makes her ashamed

ReplyDeleteHola! Un post genial. Un capítulo muy bueno. Besos
ReplyDeleteOh Valentine´s Day is always complicated and sometimes not so good
ReplyDeleteLily's grandma is so cute! And I enjoyed Lily's sorry-not-sorry reflection about her own bad behavior: "Lily hadn't meant to be bitter but it was like her grandmother was channeling an 80's sitcom these days." You had me at 80s sitcom! Lily's wish for a V-day diner date resonated with me, too; I haven't been out to eat indoors since the beginning of the pandemic (and only once outside), so that sounded like such fun to me. Even though Lily's lukewarm about passing out her grandma's chocolates to the boys, I hope she finds something to, ahem, love about the holiday. Surly or not, it's hard being a teen.
ReplyDeleteHow much do I love this collage? Pink bangles, My Little Pony, and more of my florals with another sweet saying! Nice! :)
