"I just don't know what you are so afraid of?" Mick looked at his sister Dimi rather blankly. Of course, he could be asking the same question to Jools, but he wouldn't go there. All was not what it seemed. Exactly.
Sure they were a couple. And the kissing was a new playing field, but it wasn't everything. Mick looked at her even lipped. Surly, Dimi wasn't going to say no to Bishop. After all, he had hope in Jools that their own relationship would be full-blown. Still, some things had to wait.
Chevy had told him this. It was best not to rush into things. Of course, Chevy had been sick with COVID and sometimes, didn't make sense when he texted, but Mick had to discuss this with someone. Not his sister.
Of course, she looked so out of it.
"Are you coming down with something?" Mick winced wanting her to go straight to her room. No way did he want her coughing on the dinner he was making.
"No," she was in a pout no less as if Bishop was making this all too hard for her. Yet, she was wearing his engagement ring.
"You can move on," Mick nodded as if winter was already here and it might be a few extra weeks before spring arrived.
She only sighed.
"I like Bishop," Mick couldn't tell her how much he despised that other fellow she'd spent most of her life with. She was going nowhere with that guy. At least, Bishop wanted to make things right. She had to let him.
Naturally, she had nothing to say to him, but he was certain she'd pull her hair out before it was all over.
Of course, he was still wondering what Jools was waiting for. Couldn't they just get the sex over with?
Matty could see how distraught Brick really was. They sat in the breakroom for a bit staring at their energy Monster drinks.
"I can't believe I did this," Brick might as well be crying. "Did I hurt her?"
"You did the right thing," Matty nodded. "You shouldn't take it so-" Honestly, he didn't know how to finish that sentence. He knew he had nothing to input to Brick's situation.
Brick took a sip of his drink. He was even lipped, in thought about his disaster with Izzy (who hadn't even come to work since Valentine's Day).
"Look, like they say..only fools rush in." Matty didn't know how to explain it. "Relationships take time." There. He knew Valentina would have said as much.
"How was your Valentine's Day?" Brick finally asked as if he knew not to make this all about him.
"Oh, you know, it was Val's birthday, but we babysat so Dan and Ivy could go out. It was fun." He nodded. Of course, that wasn't the only thing they did. All though, they were pressed for time and they were in a parked car on the street. Matty bit his bottom lip.
A policeman walked by the parked car that night. He was so sure they'd get caught. But they didn't. Honestly, he was beginning to think Val liked these kinds of frantic situations, but Matty was a nervous wreck. If that wasn't enough, they'd made out at the art exhibit near the Campus Coffee shop the week before. Of course, they were the only ones there, but what if there were cameras?
Yes, he needed to talk to somebody about his own problems, but not Brick. Maybe Slater.
"You know, you are smart," Matty told Brick. "You know, from good reasoning to be who you are. You are doing just fine."
"Yeah, but..but I was thinking of Lily." Brick gave him a serious look. "Will I always be thinking of her?"
Matty nodded. "Well, they say time heals all wounds."
Brick nodded but said he really hated that song.

ReplyDeleteHello!! great chapter!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!
love the way you tell the story...
ReplyDeletegreat
Do energy Monster drinks solve the issues!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to learn that Dimi is conflicted about Bishop's proposal. Even so, her brother shouldn't force her into marrying Bishop just because he's more of a stand-up guy than her ex. That aside, I feel for Mick and his frustrations with Jools.
ReplyDeleteOf course Brick is beating himself up! And it's kind of Matty to try to help him even though he can't really relate. You end that section so beautifully:
"Matty nodded. "Well, they say time heals all wounds."
Brick nodded but said he really hated that song."
So bittersweet and lyrical.
Fun boxers in the collage! :)
