Rachel did have a lot on her mind with the baby coming. For the longest time, she didn't want to be surprised about the sex of the baby because this was what Jory wanted.
Oh, he was so old school sometimes that it made her bitter wishing she'd never met him. But as usual, she stayed the course. This was her life. She had to make the best of it and after all, where would he be without her? Some days were certain he'd be serving time somewhere with all that political crap he'd go on about.
It was a mute subject. She didn't even want to know what he believed.
"Maybe it's his job," Rachel now said. She was over at Lynsey's with Poppy. They were having tea and of course, Rachel brought cookies. "I hate to speak ill of him, but he's nothing like I thought he was." She cradled her cup as if she did have to be honest.
"But..but I think you are good for him," Lynsey said as she looked at Rachel as in, don't leave my little brother now.
"We'll be fine," but Rachel didn't know that for sure. After all, they were having a boy, and Jory's parents were visiting later this month when the baby was due. "Where did the time go?" Rachel then said. "I feel like it was just yesterday I found out I was pregnant."
Poppy smiled at her as if she'd never heard that before.
"Oh, time is spinning these days," Rachel shook her head. She'd tried to make the most of it, but she didn't have enough time in the day. "I swear it takes me longer each night just to get ready for bed."
"But..but he's being good to you, right?" Poppy wanted to know.
"Well..he goes in his bouts like he just won't talk. I feel he's mad at me all the time, but then..you know..if..if he said all the things I think he might say then it might just make my ears hurt." What did they want to hear? Everything was just peachy.
"He always had a hard time communicating," Lynsey told her. This only made Rachel wince more. What did this mean to their own child?
"Well, I've been making him read to my stomach." She wanted to say to the baby, but then again she didn't know the right thing to say. She held on to her stomach and it wiggled back like jello. "I hope it all goes OK."
"I know it will," Lynsey gave her a smile and took her hand. "You've looked radiant through the whole pregnancy..and you haven't had any blood pressure nor blood sugar problems, You'll do fine."
Rachel did her best to smile, but she was scared of the unknown.
"This was her life. She had to make the best of it". Well, it reminsd us of the saying : 'life gives you a lemon, make yourself a lemonade'.

I feel for Rachel. Especially after reading this: "Oh, he was so old school sometimes that it made her bitter wishing she'd never met him. But as usual, she stayed the course. This was her life. She had to make the best of it and after all, where would he be without her? Some days were certain he'd be serving time somewhere with all that political crap he'd go on about." Also, it's tricky being friends with your husband's sister when you need to vent about him. No wonder Rachel feels that she needs to hold back. I hope it all works out!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you got to go out for Mother's Day. I did too, believe it or not. What you said about the crayons is so true; they can work wonders when waiting for food. :)
Thanks for sneaking more of my florals into the collage. Seeing them was like winning a scavenger hunt! :)
