Frankly, I don't give a damn

 

"OK, there are two ways you can go about doing this," Lily looked Cade in the eye. He didn't have the nerve to look at her. He was shifty that way. After all, he was staying at her grandmother's on the couch. Actually, it was starting to feel like home to Cade.

"You go your own way and forget about Mercer, or you be happy for him." She told him with a pointed finger. 

"I don't like either of those choices," Cade shrugged. Didn't she know he was in hiding? He didn't want anyone to know about this eye of his.

"Don't you know, stupid? Love isn't love until you give it away." She festered her best bottom duck lip and put her hands in the back pockets of her faded jeans and gave him a stern look.

"Where did you learn something like that?" He practically gave her a sneer, but she didn't shy from him. "Is that what you did to Brick? Are you doing it to my brother? Right now?"

Now she rolled her eyes at him and turned away there in her grandmother's living room.

"Look, stop using my grandmother," Lily said as she crossed her arms, but then looked back at him. "We both know who is number one in your brother's life, and it's not me."

Cade practically winked his bad eye. "What?"

She smiled. "Like you don't know?"

"No, I think it's you. You're number one. That's what it is." Cade knew something about his brother. He knew Rafe cared a lot about Lily. He wasn't one to put her down. He certainly wouldn't use her.

Lily was practically fuming from his remark.

"You don't know him, like I know him." She made it sound like they weren't even friends. 

"Obviously." Cade looked at her blankly. He was beginning to think Rafe was just as unlucky in love as he was.
