It's too close for comfort

 Oh, it felt like a long summer already. Really, Chevy needed a vacation from everyone, but there was only Mick to turn to and he'd gone blonde again and helped Chevy decide he should go PINK.

"Are you sure this isn't going to hurt our hair?" He'd said in the beginning. After all, he had tried his best never to go strange with his natural dark hair.

"It'll be fine," Mick told him. He started talking about all the things Victoria used to do to his hair.

"Victoria?" Chevy's eyes lit.

"You know, who I'm talking about?" Mick went on and on how she was like this other sister he'd always wanted. His best friend from high school.

"Yeah, I know." Chevy was friends with her. Except he hadn't told Simon about it. He just didn't want to make him feel...bad. "I know who she is." He winced thinking she was with Simon's ex. And they were going to have a baby. He sighed heavily.

"What's wrong?" Mick was bleaching Chevy's hair first and it did make it sting. He tensed there in Jools and Mick's kitchen at the metal sink. What would Jools think if they messed up the place?

"Oh, nothing...it's nothing." Chevy cringed. Not wanting to sound so pessimistic. Simon said he could be that way, sometimes because Simon was always optimistic.

"Yes, it is." Although, Mick swore Chevy's hair would not fall out. "You're going to love it."

He didn't think so, but it was too late to say NO now.

"I was just thinking..you know, about Victoria and Steve." Chevy sat at the dining table then with the yucky substance dripping down his face.

"What about V and Steve?" Mick looked at him puzzled.

"I just don't know what Simon thinks, you know..all of us getting together." Chevy wasn't quite sure what to do about the matter. Although, they were always there when Jools and Mick had a summer party. 

"It doesn't seem to bother him." Mick shrugged as he was reading over the instructions about the next step with Chevy's hair. He even clicked on a YouTube video while they waited about going pink at home. 

"I guess, but..but they just ignore each other. They can't even look at each other. They won't even speak to each other." Chevy swelled a frown. He wasn't sure which he hated worse, coloring his hair or Simon and Steve not communicating.

"Like The Smith's song say, Time heals all wounds," Mick looked all thoughtful about it and it only made Chevy laugh.

"God, you're too romantic for your own good." It took all of Chevy's might to sit still. A part of him wanted to run from the kitchen and go rinse his hair out of trouble at home, but he was Mick's friend. Although, Mick was a mechanic. Not a hairdresser.
