A Brooklyn sighting

Mercer was trying to remember all the stuff at the front desk while he was shelving. It seemed Cade had persuaded someone to let Mercer clerk if help was needed. Of course, it was quiet these days. But plenty of books to put away. Especially, kids books.

Still, he liked being able to know more functions on the computer and of course, helping patrons. Although, he rarely got to do it. Still Cade reminded folks with winter vacation and sickness coming that he and Mercer could handle it. At the moment, it felt like a nice daydream.

That's when he saw Brooklyn. Was that really her? She still looked like Halloween with dark makeup and the Wednesday Adams hairstyle.

"Hey there," Mercer couldn't believe he said that as she looked over her shoulder. But she gave him a dead stare and was back to the poetry books.

"I haven't seen you in a while," he said. "Are you even going to school?" He had not spotted her.

"Remote learning," she was blunt.

"I see," he nodded. "I didn't know you were sick."

"I'm fine."

He nodded, but he didn't think so. "So..so what have you been doing?"

"Applying for colleges." She said applications were like forty dollars a pop along with all the essay writing and test-taking. It added up.

"I guess you have no time for a job then." He was straight-lipped. He wasn't terribly worried about college. It was a ways away. He just planned on going to college nearby.

She nodded.

"So how are you and Trent?" He got up the courage to ask. She shrugged back.

"I'm seeing somebody else," she told him and left it at that. He watched her walk away, thinking he'd have to call Harley because she would want to know.

  6. Things are getting weirder with Brooklyn. I agree with Mercer that she's not okay. And I wonder who she's seeing now. 🖤

Thanks for including my hearts and florals in the collage! The deer and evergreen sweater are super cute too. 🤎🌲
