At this point, Brooklyn was going to tell Mercer anything he wanted to hear. Yes, she was still with Trent..just because..
1. Her parents loved him. Trent was smart. She could go far with him. It made her sick to her stomach listening to them.
2. She didn't want to cause any trouble. They always thought of Mercer as a handicap. They were only doing it (taking them places) because they thought she was a do-gooder of some sort.
Why couldn't anyone figure out who she really was? Probably, no one wanted to. It had always been a struggle to make friends. She'd gone out of her way most of her life trying to be that friend someone needed. But they didn't know what she needed.
Yes, she'd been bullied when she started school. She was the shortest and some thought she might be a dwarf. She learned so many weren't even nice to little people. Not that she was one, but even her mom said she was within inches of being a little person. Maybe that was why everyone thought she was younger than she actually was.
Just studying one's life could lead to a lot of depression. But she had her mind made up. She was now happy thinking about a guy she met only once at a spelling bee. Yes, he won. And possibly he was just a little arrogant. But so was Trent.
Now if only Angus knew who she was. Well, she could still dream about him. Maybe that was best. Yes, every fluffy novel she read these days, he starred in the movie in her head. It was quite delightful. It kept Trent far from her thoughts. It was best to keep it that way.
Perhaps it was safest to be a recluse. She didn't need anything. She didn't need Christmas, either.
Other completely interesting chapter

ReplyDeleteGenial fragmento a veces por más que uno lo intenta no puede olvidarse de alguien. Te mando un beso. https://enamoradadelasletras.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteAw that's tough. It is easy to idealize people we've met and sounds like maybe she does that, most recently with this Angus.
ReplyDeleteWow. So Brooklyn is still with Trent. But wishes she were with Angus, the spelling bee guy. This girl has layers, and I feel for her. I hope someone can get through to her before something bad happens.
ReplyDeleteThanks, sometimes, you might even be the last to know that you are depressed. Especially, if you think you have it under control. Of course, Brooklyn might be adapting a personality disorder, if nothing else.
DeleteIt's really sad growing up trying to be who other people want, I hope she finds her voice.

Deleteonce I had a boyfriend. My family was in love with him, but this relationship has not been long. When I broke up with him, t my family wanted to persuade me, that I should come back to him... but i did not love him after all.
ReplyDeleteYes, many of us have had to cope with parents wanting one thing and we are wanting another. Sometimes, the parent can't see what we are going through in these situations. Even when we do tell them in our own way how this person is, sometimes..they still won't listen.
DeleteMe identifiquei com Brooklyn, já passei por isso.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço! ♥
So true. Regine
