I remember way back then

 

"Who is she again?" Chevy asked a couple of nights later after seeing Ivy.

"We..we might have been best friends back in high school," Simon told him. "But I might be wrong." Simon went on chopping veg while Chevy watched the veg in the stirfry. They were going meatless. At least there were unsalted peanuts in a jar to give the noodle stir-fry some protein. Simon put in the last of the onion.

"But you were everybody's friend," Chevy smiled.

"I wish." Simon laughed softly. "I dunno. We almost dated but thought it best to be good friends. I don't think I was her type, even back then. She had her mind set on this one guy who kept putting her off and then when they did start dating it was like she was bored. Later, she ran off with a guy from the carnival..or maybe it was him she brought home from going on a rollercoaster with." Simon's smile was open. "It's like I didn't know her at all."

Chevy put in the Ramen and a little chicken broth and it sizzled. It wasn't long until there was food on the table.

"So, do you think she's all right?" Chevy asked.

"How would I know?" He shrugged and played with his noodles and veg with the chopsticks.

"I thought she looked sad," Chevy said. "Something was off. She just looked lost."

Simon nodded.

"I hope you can find them a place," Chevy thought that might help.

"I dunno. I don't think she was interested." Simon stuffed a mouthful of noodles, nuts and veg in his mouth. Of course, he told Chevy that he made the best stir-fries.
