Seriously, the move to the new apartment was rather overwhelming to Maisy. After all, she felt she barely knew how to be on her own as it was. Although, she felt safe Harrison. She always had. And even her boys (Cade and Mercer) brought disinfectant and cleaners to make sure the apartment was really clean. They seemed to know how she felt about germs. Honestly, she felt they were the only friends she really needed.
But then suddenly Vanna wanted to be friends. Of course, she told Harrison she thought it was strange.
"But I know her husband, " he'd said about the matter. "Maybe he's the one who suggested we get together." After all, he knew Koda could cook. He smiled about it as if it would be all right. It was just dinner.
Of course, she really didn't have any intention of becoming chummy with Remi, Harrison's cousin. She was just a bit weary of her and her anger issues.
"But she's better now," he said. Maisy didn't think so. She'd heard how loud Remi could get on the phone with him.
"I'm just so thankful she didn't move in," Maisy sighed. After all, this was new to both of them. Spending the night on a Saturday night was one thing, but every day?
"Now, don't you go and get up at the crack of dawn just to put your face on, I like it natural." He'd told her the day he saw her after all that cleaning with Cade and Mercer. "If they can see you that way, so can I."
Yes, maybe she'd tried too hard in the first few days of their move. She just wanted everything to be perfect, but of course, Harrison wasn't. He farted whenever he pleased.
"I am not a robot," Harry had said about the matter. He also liked to chew on cigars on occasion, but he didn't smoke. He didn't chew tobacco. Yet had a slight obsession with Diet Dr. Pepper. He didn't drink the real thing nor Zero Sugar sweetner. And of course, he liked bacon.
"I dunno how you survive just on bacon," she shook her head, about it. But he knew how to fry it to perfection. Of course, he kept calling her Vegan which was not true.
"I like my chicken nuggets just as much as the next person," she informed him. "But I love my broccoli, carrots and cabbage too." But she was not that fond of his collard greens, especially with so much bacon, bacon fat, and spicy to no end. The man always had a pot of beans going in the crockpot on Sunday.
Yes, it was a lot to get used to. Not that she'd ever expected to be an uptown girl. His parents were nice and they only saw them once a week for Sunday supper. Other than his wayward cousin Remi, it was a comfortable situation.
Still, she knew she needed to be a nicer person. And maybe Cade was right, she needed to know her neighbors. Maybe she needed to get to know Remi too. She shook her head, that would be just too much. She'd rather be reading a Tomi Adeyeymi book.

I like these dynamic narratives that you present.
ReplyDeleteHola me ha gustado el capitulo. Un nuevo hogar y vecinos por conocer. Saludos
ReplyDeleteSometimes people have a hard time mixing. Interesting to see how they do and don't click. Remi could be challengin. And the last line!
ReplyDeleteMoving in together is never easy! We do tend to want to present our best or even "perfect" selves. Then again, maybe that's just us women. It's so funny how Maisy's putting on her makeup before Harrison gets up, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel style, whereas Harrison's farting with abandon. I love how you include these kinds of details; they're so funny and relatable. I also love all the connections between these characters, like how Harrison is Remi's cousin. I'll be interested to see how Maisy and Harrison get along, and how Remi fits in with them too.
ReplyDeleteI hope your local author's day at the library went well on Saturday. It sounds like a nice event. ππππππ
