When you realize how much you missed being with family

"Yes, yes! you are so helping me," Alfie was excited. He would be with Zoey and they would meet up with Phil and Oakley. They were on their way to the movie theater and Zoey was driving. For a moment this all felt like high school. Of course, he could hardly remember those times. He'd yawned through most of those occasions.

As she dashed on in her little Chevy Spark, Alfie was beginning to think she might be a race car driver, but he hung on as if this was perfect. They were going to be a couple even if it was entirely fake. Oh, they text. Occasionally called each other, but it was only to show up somewhere so their friends and family could see them together. This was just one of those occasions. And really, they knew how to play the part.

"Damn it, I should have mentioned to Boone to bring a date. I don't know why I didn't," Alfie shook his head as if he was rather thoughtless.

"Oh, he's a Freshman, he doesn't need to be serious about anyone," Zoey told him. He nodded. Maybe she was right. They were both dressed in jeans and matching baby blue hoodies. Could it possibly be too much?

Alfie did his best to be straight-lipped and be the good brother he should be. Of course, he didn't know what to do. But they met up with the three at the mall entrance. Of course, Oakley was mute while the boys just kept talking and laughing.

Alfie looked at both of them wondering why was this happening. Why couldn't Phil just fall in love with Oakley? She looked so out of place.

But Alfie took Zoey's hand and lead the way. They were going to a movie. He didn't even care what it was, just as long he could see the night through. It was a Monday night. They practically had the theater to themselves.

"If we'd come on Tuesday we could have gotten in for two bucks," Phil mentioned. Of course, Alfie didn't think of it.

"But it would have been crowded," Boone looked at Phil as if he could finish his sentence.

Why was this all so natural for Phil? Why couldn't Alfie be best buds with Boone? He tried to keep himself from sighing.

Naturally, when they sat down, Oakley tried to sit next to Alfie but he told her to sit on the other side of Phil while Boone and Phil sat next to each other.

Of course, Zoey just pushed popcorn in his mouth to keep him from talking. It wasn't long until the movie started. It was a dark comedy. Alfie did his best to keep his eyes on the movie. Of course, Boone acted as if he was having so much fun with Phil.

Alfie gritted a smile. Was there something he didn't know? He shook his head. He really didn't want to know.

  9. I love how this outing has high school vibes -- and then how Alfie thinks about how he yawned through those years! It's true that they can sometimes be better in retrospect. Nevertheless, the drama going on with this group is worthy of the pep rally and SAT set -- right down to the matching hoodies! Still, I think it's good for Alfie to be out and about -- and out of his head. I'm interested to see how it all turns out! ๐Ÿฟ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿฅค๐ŸŽฌ
