He said she was being too much of a mystery to him, lately. Of course, Lily thought Rafe was being the mystery. Valentine's day just didn't look to be in the cards for them, but thankfully there was a Saturday night dance at the school gym and all their friends were there so it somehow worked out.
They weren't so bitter with each other. Really, Lily did like being a couple. Although, she was certain now Brick and Harley might have been the best couple. What were they doing that made everything work? It was a big question and she guessed she couldn't ask. But Brick seemed so in tune with Harley's problems and she seemed to be his best cheerleader ever. Could they possibly be in LOVE?
Oh, Lily wanted to be in love, but she knew now it wasn't something you could fake, either. Still, she was happy to have somebody like Rafe in her life. Although, he seemed so cold at times. Like he didn't want her to know who he really was.
"Well, maybe he doesn't even know himself," Cade had said about the matter. It seemed he thought they were breaking up the night of the Valentine's dance and talked to her during a refreshment break while Rafe was off with some of his friends.
"We're not breaking up," she'd snapped, but really this relationship felt it was full of top-secret stuff, and yet she could see how happy Brooklyn was with her date. It was as if she truly enjoyed his company. Lily only sighed and watched. She wanted that.
"But don't you have that?" Cade had asked. He reminded her how she and Rafe sneaked off at Halloween. They'd had some fun.
Lily nodded. Still, it was the thought of making it go the distance. They needed to be friends too.
"He just won't talk to me," Lily said and hoped Cade would report this to his twin, Rafe. It was something she just couldn't bring up to her boyfriend. Of course, now that she said it..she realized how much easier it was to talk to Cade instead of Rafe.
loved the chapter. relationships in general are too complicated, but nothing a good conversation can't solve.

Oh dear... that last line. That would be awkward if she can talk with Cade easier than Rafe. Maybe things will work outs...
ReplyDeleteThe author fest sounds amazing! And I hear you on sugar. I'm trying to quit coke (soda, not... you know... COKE) and it's tough! I like my sugar. And Jolly Ranchers. But I'm not 18 and just able to eat anything anymore... and yes pineapple and teriyaki chicken. ::
Relationships can be confusing at times.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Bill
DeleteOh my God! That is not the right twin
ReplyDeletei think they shold talk. Honestly how they feel. If she feels his "coldness" it is not good

ReplyDeleteEllie,
ReplyDeleteA chapter that behaves like some relationships... Full of secret things.
Kisses!!!
Hello my talented and sweet little friend, I'm still here reading another chapter of your plot very carefully.

Lily is so right when she realizes that she and Rafe need to be friends too. The best romantic relationships are always based in friendship. Still, it's good that she could vent to Cade a little -- even if it does sound the alarm that she can't talk to Rafe. On a happier note, I'm happy to hear that Brick and Harley are doing so well! ๐๐๐๐๐๐
