"Well, I got stuff going on too," Oakley informed Boone when he called about his plan to move in with Phil.
"Oh, really," he sounded his usual indifferent self, but she would tell him anyway. So maybe she was not the perfect big sister, but he knew her. He knew she would say whatever she felt like saying. Of course, she was going to stay mute on his great escape to be near his brother instead of his dad. It was easy to see what Boone really wanted.
"Yeah, I've been accepted in the Omaha orchestra," she finally told him she'd gotten her cello fixed after she'd had a fit with it and her mom wouldn't buy her another after she lost out on going to Paris.
"Cool."
Oakley sighed and rolled her eyes as she paced in her room thinking she knew she was a lost cause and even the prestige of being in the orchestra wasn't going to pay the bills. She'd gotten on a Mutual of Omaha. She knew where Phil's department was in the building, but she wasn't going to visit him, if she could help it.
"I'm moving in with some musicians," she then said as if she could at least sound like she was living the life she dreamed of.
"Far out," Boone was being a buffoon now. "Anybody, I know?"
"Of course not." Damn him, she thought. She did her best to remain calm.
"Maybe, Phil and I will come visit you," Boone said he'd love to visit the Old Market.
"I seriously doubt that." No way did she want Dory and Finn to know them. It would be just ridiculous. She needed to keep family and roomies separate. After all, she would have nothing to do with Boone ever again. It was a lost cause thinking she might ever be on Alfie's radar.
"Fine." Boone hung up before she could say FINE too.
"Well, it sounds like she knows what she's doing," Alfie smiled about it when Boone told him the Oakely news at dinner. Of course, he made noodles along with a salad. Zoey didn't have to do a thing but enjoy her weekend without doing laundry or anything else.
"Who knows," Boone shrugged about the Oakely matter as he sprinkled more nuts on the noodles to make it more crunchy. Alfie found himself doing the same while Phil watched and Zoey munched on her salad. "She's got her music friends."
"I see. Well, good." Alfie kept smiling happily for her.
Boone said he was for sure moving in with Phil by the end of April. "Meanwhile, I'm on the hunt for a job."
"Aren't you taking classes?" Zoey perked up then as if she would be the concerned girlfriend after all.
"I don't think so. I'm pretty tired of college. I need a break," Boone nodded.
"But you need to get those core classes out of the way," Alfie knew that's what his Dad would say even if he never said it to him.
"Besides, Dad wants us to go camping," Boone shrugged.
"Camping?" It was news to Alfie. "He hasn't said a thing to me."
"I know, he wanted me to tell you about it." Boone sighed as if he was their go-between.
"So who's going?" Alfie looked at him blankly.
"You, me, Zoey, and Phil."
"No Oakely?" Alfie hated for her to be left out.
"She hates camping."
"I love camping," Zoey acknowledged as if she might be the master of such outings.
Great post ๐

Sounds good
ReplyDeleteCamping can be lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteZoey cracks me up :)
ReplyDeleteLove the collages. The drinks, the noodles... Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac?), the punk mix...
Oakley, the cello player, wants to keep "families and roomies separate".so she intends moving in with some musicians. Whether she likes or not camping - she's going to be left out of it by Boone, Phil, Alfie, Zoey. Hopefully, she won't regret that.
ReplyDeleteElla no deberรญa deja a Algie a un lado. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOh, and it's on! Mutual of Omaha again, and then the Old Market. It sounds like we know the identity of Yuki's internet love interest . . . I wonder what Boone will think of that? Hopefully, he won't continue to be a "buffoon"! Also, I love that Alfie is giving Boone advice. It's nice to see him growing up! ๐๐๐๐๐
ReplyDeleteLoved the chapter. Camping is always a good way to bond.

ReplyDeletei also hate campings:) i prefer comfortable place to sleep and to wash
ReplyDeleteThere was a time in my younger years when I slept by a river covered up with twigs in Butte Montana in below 0 degree weather when I was without a home. I believe that was one of the only camping trips I was ever on. When I woke the next morning, I could barely move my fingers. Plus, I had not eaten for several days and almost died from dehydration. When I finally got some help, I was mostly skin and bone. With that being said, camping does not excite me too much.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely night, my friend!
I think camps are great when you get back home.
ReplyDeleteYet another good chapter to read at the end of the night.
