"I really think this job is going to wear you out?" Phil didn't think Boone was having any fun at the bakery. He stayed there a lot during the night, and he didn't even get paid. The boy was dragging. All he did was come home to sleep, shower, and return to work. "You're hardly eating."
"Oh, I'm eating all right," Boone assured him. "I have to test everything I'm baking from bread to muffins, even cookies." He sighed about the matter.
"But..but we don't see each other," Phil didn't think it would be like this. He thought they would play more games and even cook together, but he was all alone.
"You'd get tired of me fast if you saw me all the time," Boone was pretty mute on the subject as he yawned. "Haven't you been meeting up with that neighbor girl, just down the hall in the laundry room?"
Phil gave him a face of disgust. "How could you bring..Lexi up?"
"Oh, so you know her name now," Boone smiled about that even if he was getting ready to brush his teeth. He was already in his Spiderman pajama pants and tank, getting ready for bed.
Phil wasn't sure he needed to know her. Although, she knew a lot about fabric softener and she thought he was drying his clothes too long. "She's not a girl!" He looked at Boone wide-eyed. "She's a woman."
"A woman!" Boone laughed with foam from the toothpaste in his mouth. He went back to the bathroom to rinse his mouth.
"You're not here to tell me what..what I should say," Phil swelled a frown.
"Oh, you're doing just fine," Boone assured him. "Be a good listener."
Phil sighed.
"Don't give up." Boone looked at him blankly. That's when Phil mentioned he had seen Oakley at work, but she acted like she didn't even know him. He was pretty sure that would happen with Lexi too.
A chapter that shows disbelief in young workers, which ends up affecting personal relationships.

A bakery would be very tempting not to try their breads and desserts.

Poor Boone

Uy que mal por ella. Genial fragmento Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteGrazie per la visita, a presto!
ReplyDeleteSpiderman pajama lol. Sounds like Phil's having a little bit of confidence issues but I feel bad for him too, he misses Boone. And running into Lexi in the laundry room. I can't wait t osee where THAT goes
ReplyDeleteSo Phil and Lexi-who's-not-a-girl-but-a-woman have struck up a laundry-based friendship! I like that, especially because Boone's so busy at the bakery. Speaking of which, Boone has it rough. I can see how being force-fed baked good all the time might get old. I'm glad he can still be light-hearted with his Spidey PJs, though! 🥐🎂🍰🍩🍪🥮🥖🥨🍞🥯🥧🥐🎂🍰🍩🍪🥮🥖🥨🍞🥯🥧
