Wolf found a dog. He called Remi about it.
"You just found it?" She was at work and certainly didn't need a 311 phone call at the moment. She was weighed down enough with gift cards and graduation cards at the drugstore counter. School would be out soon. It seemed even people were stocking up on sunscreen and even summer tunics. They weren't Walmart, but it seemed they sold just about anything these days.
"No, it's a co-worker's."
"Oh." She nodded about it. After all, he wasn't at the Two Men in a Truck these days. She'd helped him on at the assisted living place (she knew people there who were still kind to her even if she doubted they would ever employ her) and he did everything from driving a bus to serving lunch there.
"It's well-behaved. It might teach us both a lot." He told her.
"Is that so?" She doubted that. But they'd moved across the way into a bigger space after the daughters, Wolf's Aunts came and told them to get out. Luckily, between the two of them, they could make a down payment on the new place (well, most of it was Wolf's savings) and the living space was bigger. Especially, the bedroom. She guessed they could squeeze in a dog. "How big is it?" She hoped it wasn't a rottweiler.
"It's just a collie," he said.
"But won't it need to be run a lot?" she asked before she had to go.
"We'll take it jogging," he said.
She wanted to laugh. What was that supposed to mean? She couldn't remember the last time she jogged anywhere. After she got off the phone, she noticed a familiar face. No, it wasn't Yuki, but wasn't she the girl Yuki was with, Emily?
Remi forced a smile. Of course, she didn't want to. Honestly, she hated the sight of her.
The addition of a dog to a place and family, always rises feelings: of joy, of concern, of like or dislike. I suppose Wolf and Remi will find the right formula to welcome the collie found by Wolf.

ReplyDeleteDog is a man's friend.
ReplyDeleteThere have been times I've run into a familiar face I haven't seen for quite some time, and wish I wouldn't have!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see Remi and Wolf making a go of it! Even if their relationship is complicated by a new four-legged roommate -- and Remi catching a glimpse of Yuki with Emily. I even liked all the summer celebration clutter at the drugstore. It's a sure sign that happier times are ahead! ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely :D
