Recalling good memories

"I've liked him from the moment I met him," Dakota smiled about Kevin. Of course, it was ages ago. They were in elementary school. Funny, how she thought about how clumsy he was and yet full of life. She knew Ting wouldn't want to hear it as they dined on Cobb Salad at the Meusuem's cafe.

"Sounds like you really know him," Ting smiled back. She said she hadn't known Tony that long, but maybe she wasn't supposed to meet him until now.

"I was worried about Kevin back then," Dakota admitted. "He was in a bad family situation. His dad went to jail and his Mom was..well, never that kind to him. So..so I did my best to find help for him. I mean, his adopted dad has always been an uncle to me. Back then, even my own dad had gone through some mental issues." She sighed as she looked around, hoping no one would hear. She really didn't want to say something about the father she loved so dearly. "You'd never know it now. He's fine and I love my step-mom."

Ting was quiet. A part of Dakota wished she hadn't shared all this with Ting, but still she wanted to be her friend. She felt she needed to explain this to Ting. "The thing is, am..am I too young to be in love?"

Ting grinned. "I'm glad you have Kevin. You, are like family to him. Don't worry too much. Just keep on doing what you're doing. Being there for him."

Dakota nodded. She'd never doubted Kevin. Not even now. They'd been best friends back then just as much as they were now. Sure they had their squabbles, yet they knew their boundaries. Still, it felt she might lose him. She hated this feeling.

Soon they finished up, and it was back to work. Back to the Better World Books data base. Really, Dakota enjoyed this part of the job. Actually, she loved everything about the museum. And she knew Ting took her job seriously. Oddly, she felt she was in a whole new world. And she now had a part-time summer job.

  1. Ellie, I recall some of my good memories from my past, but I hate to say, most of those memories were not so good.

Another thing is, I regret the times I used to talk bad about my parents, knowing now, that that was wrong, seeing I have made many mistakes of my own, and still do.

  3. I might have to go back a few chapters to read more about Dakota and Kevin! I am not remembering their backstory....ugh! But that's great that Dakota has Ting to talk to about this kind of stuff:)
Hope you're having a lovely week so far, Ellie! Just still reading books and watching horror movies lately:D Hope your crafting is going well!

  5. I enjoy thinking back about memories, even if all aren't rosey. And the basis for any true love is indeed friendship.

  9. Having someone to open up to is great! Dakota's lucky to have Ting as a friend.
It appears Dakota was good to Kevin; her boyfriend. She helped him with his family problems.
Ting's advice to her is beautiful: ' keep doing what you're doing. Being there for him.'

  12. Ting gives good advice! Dakota and Kevin's story is beautiful, and Dakota should just keep being there for him. I also enjoyed learning about the museum. It seems like a happy place, and a much more interesting summer job than food service or retail. I'm glad Ting and Dakota have each other.

This collage is so fun! I love the colorful Take it Easy tee (I couldn't help but sing myself some Eagles) and very much appreciate that you included my barrette and sunflowers. You are the collage queen! 🎡🌻🎡🌻🎡🌻🎡🌻
