Here they were. It felt like a long time coming, but it was finally happening. Izzy wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry looking at all those boxes to unpack in their apartment.
She thought of how many nightmares she'd had about living in the wrong place with Link, but as luck would have it, not only did her parents love him (Her dad had the biggest guy crush on Link for starters), but evidently somebody liked Link at the apartments across the street from where he trained for soccer and it was a done deal.
Now they had practically everyone help them move in, from Brick and Harley to Brandon and Declan. Even Riley and Melissa showed up. Everyone was on the hunt for furniture for them. They couldn't say no since they needed everything. Although, they'd gotten a good mattress off Amazon. Hopefully, a queen size would work.
It felt like an impromptu wedding shower with no wedding. Yet, it seemed her mother thought it was destined in the cards.
"Now don't you whine too much? You better be good to Link," her mother said as they were leaving while Link was still putting away groceries her parents brought.
"Oh, mom," Izzy winced. How could she say something like that? But her mother knew her too well. "I'll try." She sighed.
After they left, Riley gave her a hug and was practically sobbing. "You're growing up too fast," she told her. "Both of you are."
"It's OK," Izzy told her standing at arm's length. "We know what we're doing." Izzy smiled as if she knew him very well.
After all, Riley and Melissa brought a coffee table and a chest they'd found at a garage sale, and Izzy couldn't wait to use these treasures.
Declan and Brandon were in the kitchen with Link discussing how they could bring some shelves. They'd painted an old table and a couple of chairs that fit perfectly in the dining area. Really, it was looking cozy. Izzy couldn't help but stand there smiling as if this felt like their first home.
"What are you gonna do after we leave?" Harley's silly smile just wouldn't stop, but Izzy turned to her as if she better shut up.
"I'm gonna go take a shower." She swelled a frown.
Harley only giggled. About then Brick came over and put his arm around Harley.
"You sure we can't help you unpack more?" He said to Izzy.
"Really, you two have done enough," she told him. They'd brought so many boxes in the pickup truck that belonged to his grandmother. Of course, Harley had left the lifting to Brick and everyone else since she had to watch her blood sugar, but she'd swept and mopped.
"Can we come over next weekend for dinner?" Harley wanted to know.
"Maybe," Izzy sighed as she put her hands on her hips. She called to Link then. "Do you think we can invite anybody over by next weekend?"
Link nodded. She knew he wouldn't say no.
About then, Brooklyn and Griffin showed up with Pizza. Yes, it would be a party after all. Nobody would be going home for a while.

ReplyDeleteWow, look at Izzy and Link, getting serious! I like that for them. And it's so nice how all their friends turned up to help, and how Brooklyn and Griffin even brought pizza. It's a nice bonus that Izzy's parents like Link so much. The part where Izzy's mom tells her to be good to him and Izzy says she'll try is so funny. Hey, self-awareness is the first step! ππππππππππππππ
