Tell me where's the soul

"OK, I have this idea," Harley said once they got settled into the hotel room.

KC's eyes were killing me. How long could this girl stay up? His head fell back against the bed. They were sitting in floor of the hotel room looking at the handwritten playlists. She had her HELLO KITTY notebook out with all the lists. Of course, they didn't change it up much. Why should they? He sighed with a yawn. She was all business. A kind of business he wasn't sure he got the jest of, but she seemed to care in such a different way than Tyra. Harley wanted them to be more than a cover band.

"I know you write songs. Couldn't you at least include one?" She looked at him ever so seriously with her thin arm laying up on the bed as if perhaps she would make a slow crawl into bed. KC knew this was his last summer for music because he had gotten into a great college in Arizona to learn about sound and work in a recording studio. He knew he couldn't make it just by being a musician. It was a way of letting his parents know he was growing up, even if he did have one more year of high school.

"I don't think it would do us any good." KC shrugged as his shock of hair fell into his eyes. He would hate to let himself really look at Harley. He'd hate to get attached.

"Why don't you just go ahead and wear it in big letters across your chest NOROMANTIC?" She tilted her head as if she had him completely figured out.

Harley did have him in a tense squint. He pressed his lips as if he'd had enough. He hugged himself. After all, she had a bed and he had a bed.  They might as well have been an old married couple. It was definitely noromantic.

"Look, there is this old song my dad always loved by the TING TINGS," Harley told him.

"What?" He snarled. "Are you going to sing THAT'S NOT MY NAME?"

She laughed then. "No." She talked about a song he hadn't heard of, actually, and that kind of hurt. He thought he was the expert in cover songs. She dug it up on YOUTUBE. The song started out very slow, but it built up and was great for an electric base to show real music skills. "And I would have to drum." Harley shrugged.

KC tried his best not to smile. He wanted this kind of friendship with Rafe (real feedback), but all he got to hear was about Kimmy or his little step-sister who was making a fool of herself over Rafe.

  10. Hmm, so Harley and KC are getting closer. And KC is pretty mature for his age, putting music on the back burner to give life the old college try. I have to say, I'm liking Harley more and more. She's really emerging as an artist. Also, anyone who loves Hello Kitty is cool in my book! 🎀🎀🎀
