You got the antidote

Why hadn't Alfie gotten back to her? Oakley stared at her phone just as her lunch break was coming to an end. Oh, there was so much more she had to tell him, but what if he didn't care. He probably didn't.

She pressed her lips tight. She and Finn had told no one about getting married. Finn had asked her the last week of June when Dory ended up in the emergency. Neither had suspected he'd try to do himself in on an over-the-counter liquid cold medication. Maybe he would have just thrown it all up anyway, but he was so out of it that evening. He wouldn't even eat. It took both of them to drag him there because they knew Dory didn't have the funds for an ambulance.

While they were waiting, Finn asked her to marry him. True, it was sometime after midnight, and maybe that wasn't the greatest idea for a proposal, but they were nursing tepid coffee from the machine and were leaning on the vacant wall in the tiny corridor. And she had replied, "Why not."

So maybe they hadn't been together that long, yet it felt as if the time they were in each other's company was quality over quantity. And if anyone could make her feel life could be a dance it was Finn. So it was decided they would take the plunge and then go to Paris the next day. Of course, Finn had joked, "We could have the honeymoon first if you want."

Oh, that dazzling smile. Oakley smiled back happily. She hoped this was going to be all right. And she'd decided to be kind to her little adopted brother now, but he would not even respond to her text or phone calls. She was so mad at him.

"What do you want?" It was almost one when she got the text. She squinted. Aflie would never respond this way. It was Boone.

"You better behave." She shot back as if she was suddenly in Big Sis mode.

"Behave?"

Oakley sighed. "Quit messing around."

"What are you talking about?" He said he was at work. He had to pay attention. He didn't have time to mess around. "When have I ever?" He wanted to know.

She pressed her lips tight. "Well, there's a first time for anything." She spoke into her phone this time.

"Hahaha," Boone responded with emojis. "When are you getting married?"

"You already knew?"

"Finn and I are tight." Boone shot back.

She knew he was laughing at her now. She wondered if he'd told their mom. Of course, it hit her that Finn would have already talked it over with her. Sometimes, it felt Finn was already family and she was just the outsider.

  1. Finn's marriage proposal should have been a happy event, yet Oakley was worried by the silence from Alfie , her half brother , about it. Worries never end.

  5. [̲̅$̲̅] In this capitalist world we live in, with people corresponding 90% of the time through emojis, we can't expect much romanticism in relationships. I don't think even Professor Minerva McGonagall would have an antidote.

  9. So exciting for Finn and Oakley! There's something romantic about a whirlwind proposal, and I love Finn's reaction: "So maybe they hadn't been together that long, yet it felt as if the time they were in each other's company was quality over quantity. And if anyone could make her feel life could be a dance it was Finn." The part about Dory, of course, is very sad. I'm glad he's alright, though. I guess sometimes it takes a near-tragic event like that to inspire loved ones to more forward. πŸ’–πŸŽ΅πŸ’•πŸŽΆπŸ’˜
