Phil might have fallen into something with Lexi. He didn't really know or did he just not want to think about it?
It had been a lazy string of summer days, indoors mostly and something festered and then it happened. All of this left him in a bit of a stupor. They were a genuine couple now. Yes, the intercourse commenced and it was a steady darkness that shined in the sunlight most early mornings.
Phil knew he shouldn't mention it to Boone who was being as coy as ever.
"Has anything happened between you and Lily?" Phil caught Boone before he left for work.
Naturally, Boone gave him a sheepish grin. "Like what?"
"Quit being a man of mystery," Phil just wanted honesty, couldn't they talk about this kind of stuff?
"I don't know what you mean?" Boone looked at him blankly. "I like her a lot."
"But you don't love her?" Phil asked because this is what worried him the most. Did he really love Lexi? Was it like in those classic romances? Or was it just something from a Harold Robins' book.
"I didn't say that," Boone tensed. "It'll get there. It will. We just, you know." He shrugged.
Phil sighed wondering if he'd done an awful thing. But then again, he didn't think he was a romantic. "Well, in my family we have very long engagements." He told Boone about his grandmother and how she'd lived with his grandfather's family a good ten years before they got married.
"Wow, that's a really long time." Boone cracked a grin. Of course, he did look more brainy in his glasses and perhaps he knew better than Phil.
"Lexi wants to have a baby," Phil said before he knew it.
"That's a lot of pressure," Boone still smiled like an idiot. "We are nowhere there, Lily and me. We just want to be turtles, you know, hiding in our shells from time to time." Boone smirked as he grabbed his hoodie and was on his way.
Phil crossed his arms. He thought of being in a shell. He had a feeling they liked being in that shell together.

Turtle life is not so bad
ReplyDeletenice conversation with "good" wish to be turtle....
ReplyDeleteTurtle life is taking it slow. :)
ReplyDeleteWas Boone with LExi once? Phil seems retient to talk about her. And the awful thing part. Boone seems like he's happy with Lily ATM tho.
ReplyDeleteI loved the chapter

The comparison to turtles made me lol! :)

Being together in a shell living a love is better than living a love inside a book, because the love for literature is already defined, that of your shell (life), you can choose how the story will be.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! ♥
I hope things work out for everyone....I can't remember now but Lexi and Boone were together before? I can understand then why Phil is not telling Boone everything!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend, Ellie:)
Just to clear things up. No Boone never went out with Lexi. Boone works with Lily and they are dating now. Phil works with Lexi and they live in the same building. This is Phil's first relation. Lexi was supposed to have gotten married during the pandemic to some other guy, but it didn't happen. So she's in a rush to want to start a family since she's five years older than Phil. On the other hand if anyone is a turtle it's Phil. He's never rushed in to anything. This is his first relationship and he seems to need Boone as a sounding board.
ReplyDeleteLots going on here! I love this exchange:
ReplyDelete"Lexi wants to have a baby," Phil said before he knew it.

Lexi's desire to have a baby is a bit of a bombshell, which makes the (very clever!) turtle metaphor all the more powerful. Boone and Phil seem to be ever so slowly feeling their way with their respective ladies in relationship land. I'm glad they have each other. Turtle power! π’π’π’π’π’
Thanks so much for including my yellow shirt in the collage! It's from SHEIN, and it just makes me happy. ππ
Finally, I can so see how your trips to the grocery store inspire you! You have a real gift for spinning the everyday into fiction. ππ₯ππ«✨π
