It was going to be a cupcake wedding and Ste had left it in Boone's hands. Oh, he was nauseous thinking of all that icing. Baking was one thing, but the buttercream icing. He needed help from the only mother he knew and thankfully, she helped out.
Of course, Lily thought he was overreacting. It was hard to be around his mother. She didn't know how to act.
"So now who's reacting?" He gave her the eye. "She is a part of my life, unlike your mother."
He stormed off as if she best not say anything. He was dealing with lots of cupcakes. Didn't she know?
Well, of course, it hurt her feelings. A lot.
School was starting and here she was on the outs with her would-be life partner. Of course, she hadn't spent the night with him since that summer night. Damn, if he wasn't behaving himself. Even then he only made it a kissable night. Nothing went any further.
But there were questions from Gram. "Lily? Don't you have anything to tell me while I was gone?"
Of course, she'd been on a cruise in some river in Norway, visiting her Norwegian roots. She was even chatting with her long-lost supposedly relatives every day on the phone. What had happened to her? She'd even found a boyfriend along the way.
Lily fretted about Gram's new discoveries, but Gram had not forgotten about her and Rafe.
"How is he?" She'd asked as soon as she got back. Naturally, Lily only scowled at her and hugged herself as if she was still the only lonely one.
"How should I know," she did know it was over with him and Harley's cousin Kimmy. Oh, she was sure Rafe had his fun this summer. Now someone who looked like a middle schooler came by the bakery from time to time. Then she found out that certain someone was in her grade and Rafe and that girl with the big blueberry eyes walked around everywhere together.
Rafe didn't seem to be so adoring. But still, it was bothersome to see and to act as if she didn't care what he did anymore. Yes, maybe she hated herself the most. Why did she even care?
As always, Boone was apologetic about what he'd said. "I shouldn't have said that, about your mom." He said the bakery was bringing him down.
"Are you sure that's all it is?" Lily put him on the spot.
He winced. "It's just..it's not every day I have to have to get ready for a wedding. We don't do wedding cakes." Before she knew it, he was throwing it to her. "Maybe you should be in my shoes for a day or two."
She frowned back at him. No way would she ever want to be a baker in a bakery. She ran the cash register. Wasn't that enough?
Cupcakes and mothers - caused an exchange of unpleasant words between Boone (responsible for the baking) and Lily (who ran the cash register). Boone apollogized later for his words blaming work in the bakery for his bad behavior.
ReplyDeleteRafe, Lily's former boyfriend , was seen with a girl with blueberry eyes. I rather like the expression: 'blueberry eyes'.
Blueberry eyes. Love it. Regine
ReplyDeleteA little stress at the bakery for Boone.
ReplyDeletesound "quarrel" in a part of story....
ReplyDeletelove dialogues ....
Wow that was a tough thing to say. Sure he's stressed but ouch. He apologized though/ The girl with the blueberry eyes again. Seems like we've seen that reference before. :)
ReplyDeleteHello, Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI wish you a great week! Sometimes I wonder if these dialogues you write are situations that happen to you!!!
xoxo
Those are .. interesting dialogues.
ReplyDeleteGreetings.
Ooooo....as the others have said, I like the "blueberry eyes" description as well:) And poor Lily....she means well but I guess the baking was just too stressful for Boone!
ReplyDeletePS Christina Ricci was really quite sweet:) As soon as she saw my daughter, she said how adorable she was (it was mostly older people lined up to see her LOL). I love her too, but we promised my daughter she will do the solo picture coz she was obsessed with The Addams Family movies Christina was in:D
Have a great week ahead, Ellie:)
Life is like riding a ferris wheel at an amusement park: there are times when we're up there, and when we see it, we're already down there. The ideal is to aim for balance days.
ReplyDeleteπ Kisses π
Big blue blueberry eyes....I can imagine them.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy a Norway cruise. I heard that Scandinavian cruses were the best.
Oh, I feel for Boone and Lily! Mostly Lily but Boone too, because I know how crabby I get when I'm stressed. And it seems that maybe Lily wants to be back with Rafe? I guess sometimes the grass isn't always greener . . .
ReplyDeleteThe ending is especially haunting:
"She frowned back at him. No way would she ever want to be a baker in a bakery. She ran the cash register. Wasn't that enough?"
I have to say that I side with Lily here. Because I too would think that running the cash register was enough! I'm interested to see if she and Boone can work through this. π§ππ§ππ§ππ§ππ§π
