"I just thought you needed to know," Boone came right on in even if they were already in bed. Alfie winced back at him. Alfie went to grab a tee. He was just in his boxers.
"Well, couldn't it have waited?" Alfie croaked. Zoey was sacked out. Thankfully, the knock at the door didn't wake her. "What is going on?" Alfie thought it might have something to do with their dad and Janine. He thought all was well with those too.
"Lily and I are together," Boone fretted. "I know what you're gonna say. It's too soon." Boone was being so loud . Alfie had to shush him. Alfie shook his head and went to put on the electric kettle for some pour-over coffee. He was sure they'd be up now. Boone didn't look like he'd fall asleep anytime soon.
"So what are you afraid of?" Alfie wanted to know once he got their coffee to the table where Boone was sitting. He was nursing on a broken thumbnail.
"I don't know," Boone winced hard. "Everything." He made a face of disgust. Finally, he calmed down and took a sip of creamed coffee. "It's just-" he started to say.
"What?" Alfie's eyes narrowed as he watched his brother.
"I've never gotten that far with..with a girl before."
"So you've just been kissing kittens and puppies, have you?" Alfie faked a laugh.
"You know what I mean." Boone scowled back that Alfie needed to take him seriously.
"Well, I'm proud of you ... that..that you made it this far," Alfie shrugged.
"What do you mean?" Boone let out a sigh.
"What are you? Barely twenty?" Alfie cracked up. "I was only fifteen my first time."
"Fifteen!" Boone practically shouted.
"Don't tell Zoey, OK?" Alfie was wide-eyed wanting him to shut up.
"I bet you were a baby," Boone practically snarled.
"Well, it was my babysitter, only she wasn't babysitting me. I'd just met her at some house party." He thought it was genius at the time, but now he found himself choking on his warm coffee. He did his best to smile at Boone.
"So, am I supposed to tell you something you don't already know," Alfie couldn't imagine what it would be.
"I just want to be a good-"
"Good in bed?" Alfie smirked.
"NO! A good person." He frowned.
"Well, I think she likes you, or it wouldn't have happened, otherwise." Alfie slightly smiled.
"It's just..I think she knows a whole lot more about sex than I do." Boone looked a bit uneasy.
"Oh, stop guessing, will you. Do you really want to know?" Alfie knew he was like that too. Never satisfied. Well, not anymore.
"I don't think I do." Boone took another sip of coffee.
Alfie hoped he could live with that. Having a love life was a slippery slope.
Sexual knowledge varies between people, but girls are more concerned about how the first time will go. The boys just want it to happen.

Interesting
ReplyDeleteSo this chapter is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a nice weekend.
Love lives can be very interesting. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello, Ellie,
ReplyDeletethat last piece of the puzzle was surprising, I think women romanticise and idealise their first time too much and are often disappointed, men are only concerned with perfomance! Wishing you a creative weekend! hugs!
If I remember Lily was ready to g and had been waiting so I don't think Boone has to worry too much. she seems to like him. Cute though that he's feeling a little inadequate or anxious!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretending Zooey was awake but pretending to be sleeping :)
Genial fragmento el amor siempre es duro. Te mando un beso. https://enamoradadelasletras.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteso nice, brother to brother conversation:)
ReplyDeletethe dialogues sound interesting
ReplyDeleteThe coffee is always a good time
ReplyDeleteHaving a love life is a slippery slope! I was surprised to find out that Boone was a virgin before Lily. I wasn't surprised to learn that Alfie's first time was with his babysitter. Oh, Alfie! But seriously, it's nice to see the brothers talking about this stuff. It's obvious that Boone needs someone more experienced to lean on. πππππ
