Lexi felt as if she didn't really want to know Oakley anymore, but there she was in the breakroom as happy as could be. Funny, she remembered Oakley was so moody, now she was like a new person. Was that what happened when you got married?
Honestly, it was a little annoying. After all, Phil was dragging his feet about moving in even if she did have him there every night and most of the day too. Why was he like this?
Naturally, he was so much that she wanted. It was like having a clean slate. And she couldn't help but want to feel he was a bit of a child. Sometimes, he could look so uneasy and then when he smiled, well..she did like making him smile.
Her thoughts were only of him, but really was that completely true? She knew what she wanted and maybe she envied Oakley a little bit. After all, she was where Lexi wanted to be in life.
"So how's married life?" Lexi did her best to be happy, happy as Oakley who kept smiling over tea. There was this new dance about her. Really, Lexie thought it was strange. This was not the cold Oakley she knew.
"Great," Oakley looked at her. "How's it going with Phil?"
Lexi was stunned. She'd said his name. Oh, she knew Oakley had a thing for him. Except. Lexi would never let that slip.
"He's moving in." She didn't know when, but he would be. She wasn't going to think about a wedding because it sounded as if they'd have to go all the way to west Nebraska, in the middle of nowhere just to be wed in front of all his family. She couldn't wait for that. Didn't anyone know how long she'd waited for marriage?
"Well, it's good to live with each other for a while." Oakley nodded as if it were the right thing to do.
"Isn't that what you did?" Lexi meant to be cold, but it didn't stop Oakley from smiling. It was like she had a formula down for the secrets of a long life with your significant other.
"I'd advise you two to travel. See if you are compatible," she shrugged and sipped her tea.
"Travel?" Lexi winced.
"Have you met his family?" She wanted to know. Lexi almost gave her a face of disgust. How dare she, but she gritted a grin since, of course, she needed to look happy too.
Honestly, she was dreading it. She honestly was. She knew they wouldn't like her. Especially, if they knew she wasn't just a few years older than him, she was eight years older than him.
Lexi was ready to scurry off before Oakley gave her any more advice.
I like it :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully the age differece will not make a difference.
ReplyDeleteHappy Oakley is throwing Lexi for a loop. :) I kinda feel for Lexi though.
ReplyDeleteExcellent collage this time. :)
Oh boy. I guess sometimes confiding in a friend isn't best for easing one's mind! Oakley probably means well, but her advice certainly put a damper on Lexi's hopes for her and Phil's future. Hopefully, all Phil needs is time to come around. 🤨💖🤨💖
ReplyDeleteI love all the yellow in the collage! It's very summer into fall with the lemons. 💛🍋🍎🍁🍂
La edad no debe ser obstáculo. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
