Ivy felt a little numb after talking with Bom. Perhaps Bom had bit off more than she could chew, but she knew if anyone could do it. It was Bom. Sometimes, she envied that about her. She knew she was a much better mother than she would ever be. After all, Keanu talked about her all the time. She knew who he loved the most. She was certain someday, he would find someone just like Bom. Yes, Bom was the perfect mom.
Even Ivy's mother said so. Of course, she could not get out of this ordeal with Joon and Bom's parents. Naturally, her mother was great friends with them. Had been since the beginning of time. Oh, so much to rummage up from the past.
She had to listen to all them talk about how they thought Joon would have married Ivy by now. It was just a big yawn to Ivy. Of course, she didn't get to sleep through the night either with Angel. But she was managing and Dan was the best dad ever.
If that wasn't enough, she saw his sister plenty and that was too much family to deal with, but of course, Angel stayed at Valentina's parents while she worked at the doctor's office and Dan's shift at the hospital was during day shift hours and he had off weekends. It sounded like the perfect life, and maybe it was. Ivy kept telling herself this.
But with Joon and Bom's parents coming to the States, she had to spend more time with her mom. It was the last thing she ever thought would happen. She didn't need her mom in her life, but her mom was always visiting because she was always doing something with her long-lost friends.
"Why haven't you introduced him to..to..." Oh, she couldn't even say her mother's boyfriend's name, but he was not her father. He never would be.
Her mom kept her cool about the man she moved in with that she worked for. "Have you called your father lately?" Her mother bit back and it made Ivy so bitter. How could she? She never heard anything from him. She hadn't since her parents divorced.
"He moved to Canada, you know." She made it sound like a reason enough.
"He's moved to Seattle since then," her mother updated her.
"Seattle?" Ivy sucked in a breath and handed over the baby to her mother. It was best to change the subject. The baby, Angel was big, with a huge smile and oh, could he laugh. She couldn't imagine where he got all the animation from. Dan nor she were ever that elated about anything these days. It felt like work and chores for the most part.
Probably Valentina's doing or her mother's. After all Valentina's mom was a Foster mom. Probably always would be. Yes, it was best Angel was in their hands during most of his life.
She watched her mom interact with the baby. She put him on the floor and darn if he he didn't crawl and stand right up at the coffee table all wiggly.
Ivy watched him with her arms crossed. Actually, she didn't know he could do that.
Other good chapter, like always
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
Have a good week
Kisses ♥
A beautifully and interestingly written chapter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Cute!
ReplyDeleteKids grow up fast right before your eyes.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Ivy's side. You do a great job of making characters complex, so it's not just one side=good and the other bad. Family can be such a blessing, but sounds like Ivy has some real resentments and issues. Family can be tough too.
ReplyDeleteLove the last line. Isn't that a kick when a kid does something we didn't know they could do and you winder why didn't know that lol
I really like the collage. Nice warm colors, the sweater...
Thanks I'm glad you liked the collage. There were so many faces I wanted to put into this. & of course, baby matters too. A lot of times, I think parents are so exhausted from trying to make a living that they miss out on the little things. Then again, we are a society that wants to have something always happening to. One wonders if we can really enjoy where we are in life.
DeleteExactly true about the parents bit.
DeleteThe perfect mother is one who knows how to raise her children with an aura of friendship and firmness of conduct.
ReplyDelete(ꈍᴗꈍ) Poetic and cinematographic greetings.
💋Kisses💋
Uy pobre Ivy. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteGenial fragmento. Uy pobre Ivy. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteSeattle is great city.... love it
ReplyDeleteHello, Ellie,
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't visited your blog in a while but I've been having technical problems with the internet! Hope you're well!
Babies can always surprise us, especially if we're not with them all the time! I wish you a good job and a great rest of the week!
all babies love their grandmams:)
ReplyDeleteAngel é um nome perfeito para um bebê.
ReplyDeleteBoa quinta! Fique bem!
Poor Ivy! I think I was less sympathetic toward her in the last installment, but you have a way of showing even difficult characters in a new light. After all the stress and strife she's going through, the end is especially satisfying:

Such wonder!
It's getting a little cooler here too. I too live in an old, cold house but know what you mean about waiting to crank up the heat. That's funny about the retired priest telling you you're very hot blooded. As you say, I'm sure he'd make a great story character! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥🔥🔥
