"You gotta just stop this, you do!" Boone hadn't meant to get in a shouting match with Lexi when he brought over the pumpkin pie, but he knew Phil wasn't there. She had him at the gym working out.
"What are you talking about?" Lexi snarled back as if it was none of his business.
"Phil is not happy," he was blunt but it was the truth. "You're putting so much pressure on him. It's never gonna happen, you know."
"What?" She looked as if she didn't know. She at least poured him water from the water bottle at the dining table. It was an old custom Boone wasn't really aware of. Strange, he thought now. Maybe Lexi wasn't from around here. Maybe she was just being her caring self, but he didn't think she was any good for Phil.
"You don't even notice, do you?" Boone snapped. "What kind of fun is this? Making him eat certain things. Keeping him from caffeine. I bet his sperm is just fine." There he said it as he looked at her blankly. Lexi was on mute with her arms crossed.
"I have my goals," she finally said.
"Oh, really," Boone shot back as he held the glass of water. Did she have a special elixer in this that was part of the pregnancy zone? He put it on the dining table. He would not drink it.
"Besides, Phil and I have to go to his parents for Thanksgiving," she announced as if it might be the end of something. "I know they won't like me." She was even lipped.
"He loves you. He would not let them hurt you," Boone knew. "Look, you are with Mr. Innocent. He only knows you and no one else. Love him like there is no tomorrow and don't worry so much about the baby-making thing."
She winced hard as if she could not listen to him say such rot. She pulled a lock of hair behind her ear.
"It's been hard for me, you know." She told him.
"Well, then put it out of your mind. Maybe you need to relax," Boone shrugged.
"Like how?" She was asking him for advice.
"I dunno. Put on some music. Have some wine. Unwind." His eyes lit. "Just say nice things to each other. And let him have some pie." He reminded her it was fresh and just in time for Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI always like your dialogues, they sound natural.
ReplyDeleteI also like how you show us what is happening in your character's heads.
I think Boone is really trying to help here.
I think he gives her some sound advice.
Boone is right, she needs to relax. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Ellie.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes when we want something too much, it doesn't work out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe good advice. Maybe she can lighten up a bit.
ReplyDeleteIs "send out an SOS" a Police reference??
Buen consejo. Ojala lo siga. Te mando un beso. https://enamoradadelasletras.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeletei think she should relax a bit and take a break from thinking about this baby-making :) it will happen sonner ot later
ReplyDeleteGood for Boone! He tells Lexi exactly what she needs to hear. And it's funny -- and sad -- that poor Phil is slaving away at the gym. It sounds like Lexi has some underlying issues, especially when she says that Phil's parents won't like her. I hope she can fight those insecurities and follow Boone's sage advice:
