"She called me before he called you," Oakley said to her brother ever so matter of fact.
Boone just sighed. He was on the brink of tears. "It just can't be."
"Oh, it happened," she looked him in the eye. "Phil and Lexi are married."
Boone swelled a frown as if he wouldn't let it get to him, but she knew it did.
"I don't think they had a choice," she told him as he went back to his kitchen to find something to do.
Oakley shook her head. Never in a million years did she think she'd be here alone with her brother in his apartment.
"Where's Lily?" Oakley practically snarled. "I thought you two were attached at the hip?"
Boone acted as if he didn't hear as he was making coffee. He offered her the last of the lemon cookies but she told him she'd had too much Thanksgiving to even think about cookies.
"What did she say?" He wanted to know about Lexi. That was where the news was.
"What did Phil say?" Oakley wanted to know.
"Not a lot," Boone sighed. "I can't imagine them having a honeymoon out there."
"And they are still out there," Oakley looked at him as if maybe they should plan a road trip. "His dad got sick after the surgery. He's got COVID."
"Well, it's a family thing." Boone nodded as if it was settled. They made their way to the sofa and the coffee table. He took the comfy chair that was next to her.
"Lexi just didn't sound like herself," Oakley said as she sipped the creamed coffee. "I've been so busy with music rehearsals after work lately." She and Finn had performed at the Durham during the Christmas tree lighting. She'd been so busy.
"How is she supposed to sound in a situation like that, huh?" Boone shot her a look that she had no idea what they were going through.
"I hope she's happy," Oakley responded. "Honestly, we've never been close, and then when Finn and I got married she acted like we were going to be the best couple friends ever. She kept inviting us to dinner. It was like Phil had no say at all."
Boone nodded as he nursed his lip.
"So how's your love life, little brother," she said after a little silence. "What's happened to Lily?"
"She went to Chicago to see her mom," he was straight-lipped about it.
"Is that all it is?" Oakley was curious. Really, she thought Boone spent too much time worrying about Phil.
Siblings are always a little jealous of other siblings, this is perfectly normal.

Interesting
ReplyDeleteRelationships change after people get married.
ReplyDeleteThese two have a complicated relationship. Boone obviously didn't expect THAT to happen when they went out for thanksgiving! Phil and Lexi getting married. Him and Lexi had it out so I get it. Maybe she'll relax?
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope everything's okay w/ Lily. Boone seems reticent to talk about her going to Chicago ?
Uy pobre Lily. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.

ReplyDeletenice story
Hello, Ellie,
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on the dearest sibling thing, I have a difficult relationship with mine! I'm a bit confused by the story! Hope you have a great weekend! xoxo
You might need a couple of post back to get the story that is going on..they are talking about Boone's best friend Phil who married Lex (someone his sister works with). Hope that helps.
DeleteOh no, that's terrible that Phil's dad caught COVID while in the hospital for his surgery. Scary stuff. And it's not good that things seem iffy between Boone and Lily. I'll be interested to see what happens there. ❓🤔💔❓🤔💔
