Oh, it felt so exciting and new, even if Vanna was sharing an office with Slater's wife Misty. The upstairs of the grocery store was usually off limits, but here she was trying her best to act like she belonged there.
"Don't overdo it," Misty told her. "You'll pick it up, sooner or later."
Vanna looked at her as if she wasn't so sure about that. Did she know how long it had been since she'd used a keyboard? She did everything on her phone. This was so different. Kind of like going back to school.
Of course, she'd never taken any extra classes as of late. Vanna looked down at the little bump. Immediately, she felt the urge to pee. Naturally, this bitter winter hadn't helped any. She'd worn jeans over her tights and dress. Koda had driven her. He had the vehicle. He would be able to pick her up after work. Really, she didn't know what to do with herself.
Misty handed over the book of procedures to read through. Vanna had more papers to sign on about the insurance.
"So when is the baby due?" Misty wanted to know.
"August," Vanna nodded straight-lipped.
"It'll certainly be a lot warmer then," Misty smiled.
"Can't hardly wait," Vanna said she was a summertime girl. She was no snow bunny.
"I dunno, I've been around snow all my life, and yeah, what comes with it can keep you in a deep freeze, but in all honesty I like the snow." Misty hugged herself.
"How about Slater?" Vanna said Koda fussed so over having to clean the car and keeping it going on these cold days.
"I think he'd miss it," Misty smiled. "Maybe, of course, these days he's got his dad around to take care of him and Jay's mother."
"Oh, I haven't seen Jay in ages," Vanna winced. They lived in the same apartment complex too. "What's he doing?"
"He's always working. I guess he's been promoted." Misty told him.
Vanna felt kind of sad. She didn't know why they didn't see more of him. Of course, Vanna wasn't sure she liked Jay's wife, but she never saw her either.
"Is he still with her?" Vanna wanted to know.
"Lindy?" Misty said. "Oh, I see her all the time. Still taking those art classes, and she's been working in the art department at the University."
Vanna sighed. She knew she shouldn't envy Jay's wife, but she just couldn't help it.
Super Vanna! And aww... nice to see her adjusting to the new job.

ReplyDeleteFeeling fear is natural and protects all people with common sense from getting hurt on many occasions, whether physically or emotionally.
ReplyDelete(κα΄κ) Poetic and cinematographic greetings.

Feeling fear can motivate people, as long as you don't feel the fear constantly. New jobs are fearful and exciting all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting chapter, good read.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to catch up with Vanna! Especially now that she -- and I -- are pregnant. I could relate to having a bump and constantly having to pee! I hope she adjusts to her new job in the grocery store office -- even if she envies Lindy her artistic pursuits. πΆπ»π¨
ReplyDeleteRocky road fudge for Fat Tuesday sounds heavenly. Your coworkers are so lucky! πππ«π
