It isn't the end of the world

Cade was so close to telling his dad that his brother needed to be sedated. He thought on it for a while but knew he would never be as ballistic as Rafe.

"I can't believe you did that!" Cade barged in on Rafe in the garage where he worked on his scooter.

He knew it upset Mercer even if he didn't say too much about Rafe being a hothead. "You have to be nice to my boyfriend. If you've got a problem, bring it up with me." He was practically in a stomp while Rafe was in his little world. It was like some other guy had gone off in a rant with Mercer.

Cade gave him the eye and a straight lip as he hugged himself. "Look, Mercer and I have been together for a long time now. You! You don't even know how to get a good handle on a relationship. I feel sorry for Maddie and the way you are. You don't even deserve her."

Rafe wasn't listening. Maybe he knew he'd done a bad thing.

"Well, go to Las Vegas next time, will you!" Rafe finally shot back as he was looking at some part in his fingerless gloves. "I don't want to know." He shot him a look

"I didn't want you to know either. It's our business, not yours." Cade fretted.

Rafe swelled a frown. Cade knew he would never say he was sorry. Never. It wasn't in his blood. While Cade always felt he was apologizing for something.

"You know, Mercer's the best thing that ever happened to me," Cade told him. "We deserve your respect."

Rafe only sighed. "Why is it you! Why is it always you?" Rafe let the part clank against something metal on the cement. Cade knew he was angry as his dark hair fell in his eyes.

"What do you mean?" Cade winced.

"You always get everything right the first time," Rafe said as he went to look in the toolbox for something. "You always had the good friends. You always knew when to be quiet." Rafe squinted hard. "I just wanted to beat you at something."

"Look, you and Maddie are-" Cade couldn't tell him, 'Nowhere ready.' "You two are going to have some great times, but you just have to listen. You have to be there for her. After all, you want to be her family someday. It's not exactly like going out and getting your nose pierced or a new tattoo. Just be as kind as you can be. Don't make her regret going out with you."

Rafe practically rolled his eyes. There was no point saying any more to his brother.

  8. People like Rafe, that can never say I''m sorry, or apollogize, cannot be envied. These are, and will always be unhappy people.

  9. Nice chapter.
I also know enough people who can't apologize.

  11. Ooh, bad blood between the brothers! Although I feel for Rafe -- it isn't easy being the "bad" brother -- I feel for Cade more. He tries so hard to do the right thing and gets nothing but grief from Rafe. I hope Rafe takes his advice about Maddie. Although that eyeroll doesn't bode well! 😮🛴😮🛴😮🛴😮🛴
