"I am not supposed to be here," Eli had never sneaked into Amy's room which was full of little treasures, from Barbies to LOL dolls and even some soft sock creatures. She really was a bit old-fashioned like Anne of Green Gables with those cascade of curls, and Eli liked it. Still, he felt a shiver run through him as if this meant big trouble.
It was after school. Although, Amy's mom was home and off in her room working. Amy's dad was still at work.
"It's gonna be fine, you'll see."
Something in that wild eye of Amy's was giving Eli second thoughts. Why did he ever say he knew how to read music? Sure he could play all the instruments in band while in middle school. He was actually at the top of his class, yet he'd snubbed the notion of actually being in band in high school. No way was he going to walk himself silly in marching band. He sighed. This was making him nervous.
The doorbell rang. Amy rushed to get it while Eli stayed in her room. She was expecting that violin teacher.
Amy made the introductions and pleasantries to her mother Jen who went back to her laptop and gave a nod and that was it. Dory came up to Amy's room with two violins. Amy's mom gave Dory money for a rental. It was all set for beginning violin.
Of course, Dory almost took a step back when he saw Eli. It felt like close quarters. Eli made the bed wiggle, unsure whether to sit or not.
"He'll be taking the lessons for me," she whispered.
"What?" That musician who looked out of sync in this slouch sweater and dark khakis was alarmed. Eli could tell this guy was on a budget and didn't want to make a mistake. "I don't know, she paid for your lessons." He was quite serious yet a little anxious to even be here with the two of them.
"Oh, who knows, maybe she'll start if I learn too," Eli said quietly as if he was here just to guide Amy. "She doesn't think she's musically inclined."
Dory looked at them both. He then set up the equipment. Amy and Eli sit next to each other on the edge of the pink bed. Eli did his best to stress a smile as Amy intertwined her fingers through his. The things he had to do for his first girlfriend who was only an eighth grader.
Dory showed them how to hold the violin and test the sound of the instrument. Eli could tell Amy was put off instantly. After all, she only listened to Taylor Swift songs.
Eli watched. Amy watched Eli.
Dory went through the steps of getting ready to play the instrument. Really, Eli did feel a little bad for the music guy. If only Amy would pay attention.
Of course, Eli got the note right on his first try. It made Dory smile.
"You're a natural," he told Eli.
"Am I?" A laugh got caught in his throat. Actually, he couldn't help but shake with laughter. He winced then. God knows if he could get Amy to play the violin. Oh well, he went on to learn the simple Twinkle Little Star melody with glee.
Is it writing on the first person?
ReplyDelete:-)
um, more like Eli's point of view. Yet in 3rd person. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question.
DeleteLet the music lesson begin.
ReplyDeleteDory, the violin teacher, was supposed to guide Ami, but had to put up with her boyfriend Eli too. Strange arrangement, as Amy was not much inclined to violin learning.
Good

π©·π©·π©·π©·π©·π©· Thanks so much for reading!
There are times when we come across unusual situations that may not be embarrassing because they end up being so funny.
ReplyDeleteA violin is a dangerous instrument as it is rarely played well. LoL
(κα΄κ) Poetic and cinematographic greetings.
πKissesπ
when I was younger i love listening to violin :D
ReplyDeleteOnce again, a great and interesting chapter.
ReplyDeleteVery good chapter and I enjoy listening to the violin play, greetings
ReplyDeleteI love Amy's room, and that she has the essence of Anne of Green Gables! I guess that's what makes her manipulations all the more jarring. I feel bad for Eli, being put in the middle like that, and of course, for Dory too. Eli plays it off well, though, both being a pawn and the actual violin. It's interesting that he's secretly talented . . . πππ»πππ»πππ»
