Boone wished he'd told someone when Rafe said he was leaving. Rafe said he'd quit at the Coffee Shop.
Boone nodded thinking Rafe was in a good place, perhaps about Maddie. He understood why he wouldn't want to work there. Honestly, Boone wasn't sure what he would do if he was in that kind of situation with Lily. He hoped that never happened. Funny, how that was when someone told you their problems, you could only think of your own.
"I just need some time," Rafe winced. "Plus this girl I sort of know is having a really bad time, right now."
Rafe said he would be in Phoenix. At least a week.
"How well do you even know her?" Boone had wanted to know.
"She's just a friend."
"But..but what if you are gone longer than a week?" Boone needed to know.
"Then I guess I'll lose this job too." Rafe shrugged back as if it were no big deal. And now he was gone. Of course, Boone swore he'd tell no one.
Still, he texted to see if Rafe made it out there. He didn't even know how he was getting there.
"Oh, yeah, I'm here."
"What happened?" Boone questioned. But Rafe never responded.
It made Boone nervous. He didn't like keeping secrets. But he didn't think Lily would want to know. After all, they were in a good routine of things. She was studying so much lately. He tried to remind her that her education took priority. She was hardly at the bakery lately. And he was busy even if he was down to one online class. He doubted he'd take a full load of classes until the fall.
Not that Boone thought a lot about it, Rafe was a senior in high school. Had he even thought about graduation? Boone sighed. He hoped that kid was all right. Being so cool wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
You don't really know people until they disapoint you:-)

ReplyDelete"Being so cool wasn't all it seemed to be."

That's great to see Boone looking out for Rafe, who I hope gets to work out all the drama in his life! And this quote: "Funny, how that was when someone told you their problems, you could only think of your own."...so true, Ellie!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great week so far!
hi thanks for leaving a comment on my blog! I loooove reading novels btw do you have like a full page where I can read the whole story? thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's ongoing..you might have to look at the archive section.
DeleteIt's good to be able to think not only about your own problems, but sometimes also take care of someone else's. This is a very important character trait. I greet you :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so true!:
ReplyDelete"Funny, how that was when someone told you their problems, you could only think of your own."
And the Rafe adventures continue! As problematic as he is, I agree with Boone that "I hope that kid's alright." 🚗🌵🚗🌵🚗🌵
Oh, there are downsides to being cool for sure.
ReplyDeleteNice chapter!
secrecy is delicate matter between friends and if promise isn't kept well things can go wrong ,bit scary in relationship.
ReplyDeletethanks for lovely narration
