You would see, the biggest gift would be from me

Baby Rory was coming, and Em wasn't ready for such a crowded suite at the hospital. People were bringing fast food and fruit. She saw a lot of Yuki's coworkers.

In the mix, Remi and Wolf showed up. She was holding his hand giving her a sign of things to come. They wore matching wedding bands.

Em was thrilled. Remi gave Em a hug. Of course, when Em looked back at Yuki she wouldn't so much even look at Remi and her new husband.

"Isn't it nice?" She grabbed Yuki's hand before she ran away. Suddenly, Em said what was on her mind, "Now if I don't make it through this, you two have to be good to each other."

"You're gonna be fine," Yuki smoothed Em's wayward curls as she lay there like a queen of some kind with the machines taking readings of various activities. Em was hooked up to an IV which she hated the most. She'd never been under these kinds of conditions before. She'd never been in a hospital over night. It was a bit frightening. Em didn't know what to expect nor what could even go wrong.

Of course, Remi said the same. "You're my role model."

Remi grinned and so did Wolf. "We're expecting."

Yuki looked at her blankly and Em squeezed Remi's hand. "I'm so happy for you."

Yuki sighed as if she'd had enough.

"First Jen and now you," Em made it sound like they were in a special club. "Isn't it wonderful Yuki?" Em looked back at Yuki who remained indifferent.

Suddenly, the woman doctor came in, and the crowd eased out in the hallway. Remi waved goodbye and went out with the crowd.

They talked about Em's contractions. They were coming closer. Finally, Axton made an entrance alone. He apologized for being late. He'd had to do some odd  jobs where he worked, or so he said. Still, Em thought he looked troubled. Was that what fatherhood would bring him?

"Oh, it's OK." Em told him. Oddly, he looked so sad, and Em was certain it was all her fault. She began to cry and she pulled him in and wrapped her arms around him. A contraction hit her hard but she took it in stride, sensing the joy of it.

"I love you," she told him. "Thank you for everything."

Finally, she let go and Axton practically winked to Yuki, "Is she on something?"

"I don't think so," Yuki shrugged. "Just being an emotional Mama." Yuki nodded.

Em's face practically screwed up as the pain grabbed her without warning. Yes, the contractions were coming quick and an alarm went off. The medical team marched in. It was time for Em to stand up.

    1. Yes, even with a c-section meant going through contractions. I had to go through stress test during the pregnancy and as soon as I was strapped down and hooked up to the machines, those contractions would start up instantly.

    1. It is amazing these days how many people show up in the suites during a birth. And family members can spend the night too.

  4. I'm glad you, the writer, befriended Em's character, surrounded her with friends and with love by her side! I thought she would be alone and the baby would be born without warning! But I think there will be a surprise, I have that feeling!

  10. Aw, Em! So brave and, as you say, so queenly! Like Remi, I aspire to be that way too. It's so wonderful that everyone came out to support her -- and Yuki. The Golden Girls references in the collage are the perfect touch! 💗👑

That's so funny that my comment about Poppy's wedding ended up in your spam folder. I'm glad you found -- and liked! -- it. 💍

Finally, it's comforting to know that reading makes other people cry too. 📘😢
