What was she trying to tell him? KC came back home. Oh, he couldn't take a summer in Phoenix.
Maddie told him over the phone about her argument with Harley. They were actually talking to each other over the phone. It was golden. Or at least he thought in those last days before he headed home.
He knew the whole low down with Rafe and Ruby. Not that he planned on winning Ruby back. But at least he knew, it felt as if he had a new best friend. Maddie
But it was a different story once he got there. Sure, it was the last few days before graduation. Of course, Maddie had a lot on her mind. She was still with Rainy.
That was a setback. But then she never mentioned him in any of their phone conversations. He wanted to ask but then didn't want to start trouble either.
She was an icy iceberg. Was she just trying to trick him?
"What is going on?" He finally had to ask someone and that was Brick.
"I dunno, maybe graduation blues," Brick got a scholarship to Lincoln. He said things would change for him and Harley too. He'd heard that Rainy was moving to Lawerence, Kansas. Something about a Native American University.
"He's Native American?" KC didn't know.
"Guess so," Brick told him his grandparents used to run a shop in the old town with Native American jewelry and art.
"Maybe that's what has Maddie so troubled."
"Maybe it's Rafe," Brick told him.
"Rafe?"
"I think he wants her back," Brick told him.
"I don't think so." KC winced. He and Maddie were tight. Well, maybe not completely.
"What are you going to do this summer?" Brick asked.
"I'd like to start a band, but I guess maybe I should just find one that needs a guitar player," he was thinking if he got on at the bowling alley he could play there next door Friday nights. He had a plan, but it felt as if everything was up in the air.
Of course, he didn't ask about Harley. He wouldn't mention her because he had promised Maddie that she was his past.
Bands are fun. I wish I had the chance to be in a band when I was younger. Or to learn to play an instrument. Well, it's never too late!
ReplyDeleteWhen we make a promise, we should keep it. However, asking about someone is only natural sometimes.
Was she just trying to trick him? It's always nice to read your stories.
ReplyDeleteGood to keep a promise
ReplyDeleteSo sweet the way you show it
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to play guitar in a band once. And sing. :) Cheers, happy new week!

ReplyDeleteThe band thing is a great idea
Hello!!
ReplyDeleteBreaking promises is not a good start! But not asking can also come across as rude! Playing guitar in a band can also mean extra money! I'm sorry I don't know music, I think it's a big fault in a young person's education! If I'd had children I'd have put them in a music school. have a lovely sunday!
Genial fragmento hay muchos sentimientos encontrados. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI loved the chapter. Starting a band is a great idea

On the stage of life, when the curtain closes, we will never again experience the songs and bands that once brought our friends together. We value this beautiful spectacle that is friendship.
ReplyDelete(ꈍᴗꈍ) Poetic and cinematographic greetings.
💋Kisses💋
when i was at a high school i have always dreamt about being some band star:D
ReplyDeleteI guess everyone comes across a band when they're young :)
ReplyDeleteTerminar a faculdade, depois da formatura... o que fazer da vida?

The time they are a changing! Will be interesting to see where this goes...
ReplyDeleteLoving how things are taking turn in Meddie 's life
ReplyDeleteLife is full of so many interesting things and writer like you know how to present them dear Ellie 🤗
Thanks so much for your comment. I think Friendships are important to her and of course, I feel she wants to be a sister to KC. Of course, he has been away to music school and he's grown some too. He did have a band last summer, but things have changed..and Maddie has grown some, too.
DeleteAh, the complicated, lovelorn KC! Sensible Brick is a good foil for him. This part about KC's thoughts on Maddie is so cutting and creative:
ReplyDelete"She was an icy iceberg. Was she just trying to trick him?"
And then there's this clincher:
"Of course, he didn't ask about Harley. He wouldn't mention her because he had promised Maddie that she was his past."
So very wistful. Sigh. 💙😟💙😟💙😟
