A slippery surface, a heart attack

It just wasn't the same after Halloween. Mercer knew this now. Although, he didn't really do anything like Cade said. It was as if this breakup was coming whether he liked it or not.

Oh, there had been words and when he thought back on it, maybe Cade was a much better actor than he'd ever be. He could definitely be a villain. A  startling revelation that Mercer kept to himself. Cade really let him have it verbally.

Maybe Cade didn't like Mercer's success. Although, it wasn't about making the grade, but making the most of the opportunities he was given. Mercer knew he would likely to flop with the play. After all, he'd have to be in a dying scene most of November.

Sure, he'd heard it before from Cade. After all, didn't he know how unpredictable life could be with epilepsy? Oh, the horror. It would end badly. Cade scolded him as if he hadn't taken care of himself weeks ago, but Mercer let it go. And then when Cade found him with Lily, it was the end.

It was like an arrow hit his heart and he would have to live with the wound for what might be the rest of his life.

"Oh, don't believe him," Cowan had said in his defense.

Mercer shrugged then. It was time to let the show go on. Yes, he was on autopilot. Of course, he was certain Sterling had it worst. He'd been let go, too. But with Melissa.

It was shocking. She didn't even want him to come near her. She was adamant about having an abortion. No way would she ever have his child.

So he was staying in his room now.

Immediately, his mother wanted to know if Sterling was his new boyfriend. that was all he needed. Couldn't anyone be happy about him and the play. Well, there was Cowan. He'd written the script. Cowan believed Mercer could do it.

Still, the thought of Cade reminding him, he didn't know what he was doing.

It was troubling about Lily. November felt so discouraging. Oh, he certainly felt he was coming down with something, but he was thankful that Izzy had taken care of Lily that night.
