First love, heartbreak, tough luck, big mistake

It hadn't been bad seeing Rafe. And Maddie thought she might fall apart if she ever saw him again.  If that wasn't enough, there was Rainy with Harley. All her exes at Mercer's play.

Actually, it was a fun night with friends. There was lots of catching up. It felt like it should have been Friendsgiving, even if it was only pizza and a mega salad bar. Maybe this was a great way to start the Thanksgiving holiday.

It was good being with Boone and no one mentioned Lily. Of course, there were promises to get together again during the holidays, but no real set plans.

While on the other hand, all Junie could talk to her about was her Thanksgiving plan.

"I'm going to make the turkey all by myself," she announced at the circulation desk when it was just Maddie and her at the children's checkout.

Maddie sighed, "You don't even know how to use the microwave properly." Her brow furrowed as if Junie, barely a teenager was making it such a big deal. "You can just have Thanksgiving with us."

Maddie had been waiting for a Thanksgiving like this for a long time. It would be a crowd at Boone's parents. She was sure they would be happy to see one more.

"But..but I want to be with Darry," Junie scrunched a frown in protest.

"OK, maybe Darry can come too," Maddie shrugged.

"No can do," Darry sneaked up behind Junie. "My family always serves Thanksgiving Dinner at the mission."

Junie was in a pout.

"Oh, that's so great," Maddie told him she liked his family tradition.

"We don't have Thanksgiving dinner until after seven in the evening," he said.

"After seven?" Junie barked back as she looked at him.

Maddie could hardly hold in a laugh.

"See, you can dress up and go to, I dunno Thanksgiving with me and lord knows where," Maddie knew Junie wasn't thinking about food, but fashion.

Junie only sighed in a huff.

Darry put his arm around her and gave her a half hug, "We could spend the day together. You could help out at the mission too."

Maddie knew it was a lot for Junie to think on, but of course, she said, "OK."
