813. Finding out something is easier than you thought

 Chili didn't want to think about being replaced at the coffee shop, but Axton kept bringing it up from time to time as her due date would be here before she knew it. And what would she do if the baby came early?

"Haven't you been looking at all?" He reminded her that somebody on staff could step up. But she could only think of their hardships and past. She didn't think so. 

"What about that girl who sometimes helps out?" Axton winced as if Chili could fill in the blank.

She was busy behind the counter at the coffee shop, keeping it spotless. 

"Mattie has a job already," Chili told him.

"No, not her." Axton crossed his arms as if she needed to stop and make a list, perhaps. Or at least put a HELP WANTED sign in the window. "I know she lives close by. Her boyfriend works with Dory."

"You mean, Millie?" She looked at him as if that couldn't be possible.

"She has experience in food service. You liked her. I remember you saying that." Axton nodded. "I bet she needs full-time, too."

"I don't see her being a boss." Chili shrugged as if Axton was wrong about Millie.

"Think of it, it's just temporary. You should give her a chance." Axton persisted.

Chili sighed and held her stomach, which wiggled like a bowl of jello under her tunic.

"Babe, that son of ours wants to get here, so you better get ready." 

She almost pouted but finally said OK. He knew her back was hurting. She needed to be resting, but she never did. Chili reached for her phone. Millie was already in her CONTACT list. "I doubt I get her."

But on the third ring, Millie said, "Are you OK?"

"Actually, I have something to talk to you about," Chili gritted a smile and looked straight at Axton as if she was doing what she was told.
