Have you eaten up your Halloween Candy yet?
Eli: Pretty much. We'll have to buy more, but I think it's my dad who eats it all up. He mixes it up in his popcorn when he's watching a football game on TV. (Eli smiles about it)
Amy: (she turns to him and then looks back at the camera.) He brings those little Snickers in his lunch. (She shows the length of them with her thumb and index finger).
Junie: We were going to go to the local pumpkin patch on Sunday, but for the four of us, it would have been over $200. They don't give student discounts on the weekends. (She sighs as she hugs herself about the matter.)
Darry: Well, you had to work anyway. (he nudges her with his elbow) I did some googling. I found a farm, Skinny Bones, and the prices weren't as bad. You can go on this huge slide. And we're going on Thursday night. They even had a turbo tornado, which you can see. It's in a silo. (he smiles with a nod as if it might be a science experiment they'll get class credit on.)
Eli: I think we should brown bag it, though (Eli speaks up), we could make sandwiches from home and eat in the car.
Darry: (chuckles) You know we won't. It'll be a drive, and you know you always make room for pizza.
Eli: Pizza! (he looks at Darry as if he's ready to go now.)
Darry: Actually, they call it the Pizza Barn, and the prices aren't terribly expensive.
Amy: Oh, everything is expensive. (Amy shrugs)
Junie: Well, bring tip money then. (She looks at her as if she could afford it)
Amy: Tip money (she winces at Junie as if she'd never.)
Junie: You never want to tip.
Amy: (squints back as if she doesn't know what Junie is talking about).

That's so nicely written, I like the dialogue at the end of the chapter.

ReplyDeleteMisturar na pipoca será que é bom? Ellie feliz quarta-feira bjs.
ReplyDeleteHello Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to a pumpkin farm for a photo shoot!
In Portugal, Halloween has only recently become a celebration, especially for children!
I also think that $200 for four people is expensive. It stands to reason that paying the farm would leave them with no money for food!
Have a great week, dear Ellie!
ReplyDeleteOh, I would also like to visit a pumpkin field.
