Nico wished he were sleepwalking, but he was very much awake and was left in the kitchen of the coffee shop on his own. CW was on the mend, but as far as Nico could tell, CW might as well have been honeymooning with Crystal.
Nico could manage. He knew he wasn't great, but he wasn't bad on the grill either. It was all that prepping that could kill him. Damn, he hated sharp knives. But the place was at a lull, and he heard the front door jangle. But even from the back, he knew nobody was there to ask the customer what they needed.
"Well, it looks like I'm a waitress too," he mumbled under his breath as he went to give the dark-haired girl a menu. Nico winced. "Damn girl, why are you MIA these days?" He slammed the menu down. She would barely look at him. "You are June, aren't you?"
"You know, June..Junie?" She looked at him.
"Ain't that you?" Nico smiled back as if no way this chick going amnesia, on him.
She shook her head, no.
"Well, who are you?" He asked, but gave her an I DON'T CARE look.
"Um, I'm Jude, I'm looking for my boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" He practically winked at her and went to get her a glass of water since this was definitely going to take longer than a minute.
"Yeah, we had a falling out and then he left town, and I've been trying to track him down." She looked quite upset as she watched the ice melt in the glass.
"He must be good in bed or something. Maybe that's why June left with him." Nico shrugged.
"Left with him?" She looked at him as if she hadn't expected that.
"Well, her boyfriend, or he was her boyfriend, is a shelver down at the library." At least Nico knew this much as he scratched the back of his neck to think. "He goes by Darius..something..like that."
"Where's the library?" She wanted directions.
"I don't really know," Nico yawned. "Just heard her say he worked there."
Jude got off the stool in a tizzy. She reached for her phone to Google.
She winced hard as if that was no help.
"Look, I'm about done," he decided he could help. Of course, he wasn't really done with the dishes; he still needed to wash, which was his real job. "I'll tell'm I need a break. You gotta car?"
She nodded.
"Sweet." Nico let a grin slip. He'd rather be anywhere but here.
