a tangled web

Eric was about to climb the walls at his mother's apartment. If only Ian had his learner's permit. He wanted to get back to Syd. He should be home with Syd. He hadn't meant to abandon her these last few days.

"Well, you're in more than a pickle, now aren't you?" His mother was pissed. Funny, how suddenly he knew where Dora got it from. His mother. His sister was just like his mother, and he'd never known until now. So that's why it hadn't worked with Dad. It wasn't all his fault like Eric thought, all these years. He'd always been on his mum's side til now.

"Mum, don't make it sound like my penis is a pickle!" Eric shot back, glaring at her. "You're not helping! You know that! You're not. I dunno what to think. I mean, I'm with one of your dearest friend's... daughter, and you make it sound like I've been with a prostitute. What is wrong with you? You don't even want to get to know her."

"I know what I know. And, and how will you feel if she goes off the deep end, huh? Can you handle something like that? I just want to spare you the misery. That's all." She was in tears, but it didn't keep her from lashing back at him.

"Mum, please, don't start with this negative crap. Please!" Eric told her. "I love her. I do. I knew it, the moment I saw Syd. I wanted her. I did. And if it all falls apart like you say it will, then..then at least I tried. I want to give it my best shot. Because if I don't, I will be miserable. Do you hear me?"

She shook her head. She was quiet then.

"So how was your Mum when you told her, you and Dad wanted to be together? Did she have a conniption too?" Eric scowled as he took his mother's hands. Thankfully, she let him.

She gave him a miserable look. Her eyes were so watery as she looked up at him.  He hugged his mother then and sighed. He hadn't hugged her in a long time. And now he felt bad he'd neglected her forever. She needed to know that she meant a lot to him, even if they couldn't agree on this. It was soothing to notice her fragrance of lavender. Some things hadn't changed, but his mother was so much older now. Weaker. It frightened him a little.

"Call Dad, will you?" He whispered then.

  1. It was good for him to talk to his Mom, and perhaps they'll be closer now. I hope.

  2. Very emotional, shows a bit of innocence.

As for the movies, I haven't seen either yet, but Remember apparrantly wasn't that good and had a very strange twist ending. She's Out of My League, seems better but who knows if it's a good kind of funny or a stupid not so funny. I guess it all depends on what you like.

But if you're going to see both anyways, do Remember Me first because that may be out of theaters quicker. Hope that helps!

  4. Really, its good they could talk about everything. I'm glad he felt comfortable enough to discuss this with her. Well, even if it wasn't comfortable, I think he's a good son.
