A love like that

Meggie was beginning to think she'd played around with love far too long. She was at the point she didn't expect much of it, anymore. Was she just old before her time?

Sure, she enjoyed helping Sheena with her makeup and was happy to be a part of Omaha and Sheena's wedding. However the longer she stayed after the ceremony, the more depressed she got.

She looked around at other couples, and their happiness caught her in the throat. She could hardly breathe. To her, they were the lucky ones. She'd never experienced it first hand. After all, she was the onlooker in the audience who occasionally came to the rescue for a broken nail or giving someone a trim before a big occasion. She was never the bride nor the center of attention.

Still, she needed to thankful, she hadn't been shot in a drive-by nor accidentally presumed guilty by the police in her neighborhood. She'd done well to move her daughter to the burbs and have a life on her own. What else was there to ask for?

And then Kevin asked her to dance. She laughed at the thought.

"What? Do you think I'm a bad dancer?" He wanted to know.

She couldn't help to laugh more or she might start to cry. She shook her head, no. She doubted they knew the same kind of moves. Especially, when it came to waltzes and tangos.

Thankfully, the next song was a funky melody of happiness. At least, it was freestyle. So she took her chances, and all the while she looked at Kevin out of the corner of her eye, thinking she might have adopted a grown child instead of a boyfriend.
