do it like it is
Sawyer thought back at the first time he tried to kiss Evan. It was kind of funny now, but so strange how Evan pushed his mouth away with his hands.
Evan did have some issues with space and boundaries. It was true. Sawyer had troubles getting close to Evan. Still, he hoped it would happen sooner than later. And then it felt impossible to get near him with his neighbor around who had the baby.
Maybe he was more envious than he realized. Maybe if he hadn't felt that way, he would have never hit it off with Dawn.
They liked the arts and she was a Senior at the University. Of course, she hadn't made up her mind what to do with her life any more than he had. But that didn't keep them apart.
A part of him felt he'd let Evan down, but he couldn't help himself but to spend time with Dawn. First, it was over coffee, a day the museum, but it soon lead to time in bed. He'd missed having a lover. And she made him think of Angie, but he certainly wouldn't tell this to Dawn.
No, life was cozy now, and he only thought of Evan ever so often.
"He's just a friend," he said to Dawn the time they saw him at the grocery store with Lux and the baby. They were picking up fruit on sale while Dawn was waiting for Sawyer at the Starbucks inside the store.
Evan hardly spoke. Sawyer felt he must have been nothing to him, after all this time. Why had he put up with Evan for so long? Still, it felt like an almost relationship to Sawyer. Perhaps, it was more emotional than anything he could ever feel with Dawn.
It still left him a little sad, but only a little.
