when the nights get longer
"What?" Lux winced hard when she heard the news about her brother from Jordon. Of course, he hadn't called. That guy hadn't paid the rent. She hated to tell her what freeloader he was, but Jordon would figure it out, sooner or late.
"That scoundrel." She made a face of disgust. "I knew he was up to something with Jordon." She said to no one, but Will was there at Evan's, holding baby Jake.
"What's wrong?" Will wanted to know.
"My brother." She sighed wanting to say he was a bastard, which might have been true. He was only half-brother, but she'd always thought that didn't matter. Perhaps, she didn't have a very good family. Although, her grandmother helped her out so much. Even now, she felt in debt to her. She knew she couldn't do any of this on her own. "I'm behind in the rent." She pressed her lips tight. She'd have to find a roommate. It didn't feel right.
"How much is it?" Will wanted to know.
She looked at him wide-eyed, but then figured he might know of someone, or he'd suggest that she move in with Evan.
She told him the sum.
"I can do it." His answer stunned Lux.
"Seriously?" She thought she might be dreaming.
He nodded. Will told her he'd been thinking about moving out. "They might think I'll never leave home." He shrugged. He'd been saving his money too.
Lux didn't know to say. She went and showed him her place. It was two bedrooms, but she slept with Jake.
"He does sleep in his crib, doesn't he?" Will wanted to know.
"Kind of." She didn't want to sleep with the baby, but sometimes, it happened that way.
She could tell he didn't like the idea.
"Maybe, you should seriously get him to stay in his crib." It was something she could work on before the semester started.
Lux sighed. Just when she thought she was a good mother and she wouldn't have to worry so much about her brother nor the rent, the fact remained there was always something to tend too. Oh, and he wanted her to write up a contract too, if he was going to move in with her.
