seeking shelter
It had to be one of the coldest days of the year. Once Cass was settled at work, he planned on staying for the day. He'd work without pay. No way, did he want to go out in those windchills unless he had too.
The sun was shining, but it was mighty deceiving. It was a cold day. And then a ray of sunshine actually came into the coffee shop. Cass couldn't take his eyes off of her. Of course, she only wanted a flat white. Nothing that special.
He'd get right on it. He wanted to ask for her name, but she was the only one at the shop, but she told him her name was Kylie, anyway.
Cass beamed, but feared he'd flub up the order and she'd really be mad. He did his best to focus and hope he wasn't too clumsy to give her her order.
"So have you been out there in the cold, a lot today?" He asked when he handed over the order.
She shook her head, no. She was here for a date. A blind date. She loved around, but no one was waiting for her.
"I don't guess it's you, is it?: She was serious.
Cass found himself caught up in a laugh. He finally shook his head, no, but decided he'd give her a free shortbread cookie, while she waited.
She smiled back at him. Cass almost shook with laughter and she joined in, ever so slightly.
But then the door jangled and the moment was over. Her date had arrived.
Cass straightened his smile. Still, he wished he knew more about her than just her name Kylie.
